Morning Melodies - The Bobby Darin Story

There was never a more versatile performer than Bobby Darin and this show telling the story of his life will have you finger snapping and toe tapping to his big band chart topping successes.

Backed by a 17-piece big band, Rod Gilbert will take centre stage playing the role of Bobby Darin and performing his classic hits including Splish Splash, Dream Lover and Mack the Knife.

There will also be a special guest appearance by vocalist Julie O’Hara.

Morning Melodies - The Great American Songbook

Freshen up that lipstick and get your tuxedo ready as we’re heading back to the era of glitz and glamour with internationally acclaimed jazz band The Syncopators, as they play timeless classics from Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin and more.

The Great American Songbook will feature songs that were made popular through Broadway musicals, Hollywood’s silver screen and New York’s Tin Pan Alley in the 1920s and 1930s.

The smooth stylings of The Syncopators will be complimented by the sultry tones of guest vocalist, Nichaud Fitzgibbon.

Morning Melodies - Christmas Melodies

Join us in celebrating the festive season with a great show for all ages bring your sister, brother, daughter and grandkids!

There will be popular and traditional Christmas songs, and a few laughs along the way.

So start warming up your singing voice and get in the festive spirit as we deck the halls and get those sleigh bells ringing. Novelty earrings and Santa hats are encouraged!

The special guest host will be announced in July 2010. Previous hosts have included David Hobson, Marina Prior and Frankie J Holden – who will it be this year?

Morning Melodies - Hollywood Classics

Direct from Hollywood to the State Theatre stage, you’ll be taken on a cinematic journey of dazzling film scores performed by Orchestra Victoria.

From the daunting sounds of Ben Hur and emotive melodies of Tara’s Theme from Gone with the Wind to the excitement of James Bond and playful tunes of The King and I, South Pacific and Oklahoma, the orchestra will be under the baton of young gun Australian conductor Benjamin Northey.

Orchestra Victoria is celebrated for its inspiring performances and its groundbreaking work with communities throughout Victoria and it also performs all Melbourne seasons of The Australian Ballet, Opera Australia and Victorian Opera.

This show will be hosted by film buff and broadcaster Paul Harris (3AW, 3RRR)

Morning Melodies - Mad Songs of Englishmen

Musical theatre and opera favourites, Stuart Maunder and Anne-Maree McDonald, will have you laughing and singing along with their outrageous Gilbert and Sullivan tribute.

Whilst singing Arthur Sullivan’s joyous melodies including The Modern Major-General, Tit Willow and The Ruler of the Queen’s Navee, Stuart dips in and out of the zany characters created by WS Gilbert.

Set in the era when Gilbert and Sullivan ruled the stage, and told “through the eyes” of the great G&S comedic performer George Grossmith, there will also by songs by Grossmith (The Muddle Puddle Porter and See Me Dance the Polka) and Noel Coward (Mad Dogs and Englishmen and Mrs Worthington).

Educational travel for active mature adults

Operating since 1983, Odyssey Travel is a not for profit organisation specializing in educational travel for active mature adults (the over 50s).

Odyssey Travel will be holding a series of free travel seminars throughout Australia, in November/December. Our presenters will take participants on a journey through China, Libya and the Baltics to the Black Sea. Our seminars are no-obligation and morning tea will be provided free of charge.

Adult Evening Classes

Subjects include Computing, Cooking, Woodwork, Upholstery, Current Affairs, Astronomy, Writing, Languages, Dance, Exercise, Painting.

Most classes run for 8 weeks and there are some one-day and weekend workshops also offered.

This is a new recreational facility in Queanbeyan.  The first Introduction to your PC class has just finished, and was well received by all participants. We are hoping it will be just the first of many classes available and accessible to people of all ages in Queanbeyan and surrounding areas.

It’s blooming lovely in Toowoomba when the region comes alive to celebrate one of the longest-running horticultural festivals in Australia, The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers.  The garden city is renowned for its beauty and friendly Carnival atmosphere in September of each year when residents and visitors enjoy 10 days of beautiful blooms, glorious gardens, fine food & wine and dazzling displays of art.

Melbourne Orchid Spectacular

The largest annual orchid show in Australia, this year’s show will be bigger and better than ever due to the change in venue. Thousands of orchid flowers and spectacular displays of hybrid and species orchids from around the world.
Culture and potting demonstrations will be run on an hourly basis by local and interstate experts. This year’s spectacular will be run in conjunction with the Victorian International Orchid Fair.
