Compare and save on Broadband and Phone plans

14th Mar 2012

Have you noticed your phone bill slowly rising over the last couple of months without any explanation? It may be time to look around at the different deals to be snatched up in these tough times!

YOURLifeChoices have provided you with two options under each category to compare different plans from different service providers!

Home phone plans
You get the best value for money with your home phone plan when you “bundle” your home phone and broadband connection together, so if this is an option, consider it. If you don’t want a bundle package, then choose your landline package carefully and read the fine print, but most importantly, think of how you make your phone calls, as there are many packages which charge for line rental but offer free national and local calls but charge large amounts for call to mobiles.

Mobile phone plans
There are many different plans out there, so when choosing make sure you look closely at the fine print as there are many caps which offer $300 of credit for a low price of $29.95, compared to a plan which charges $29.95 per month for that amount of credit. The difference between many of these plans are the rates charged for calls and sms messages.

Broadband internet plans
When choosing a broadband plan, it is best to “over estimate” your internet usage than under estimate as it may cost you A LOT more in the long run. Optus is one of the few companies to offer deals that will not cost you anything more than what you pay if you go over your monthly download limit, instead they reduce your internet speed to that of a dial-up modem, which may be an option that suits you better.

I found Optus $50 plan for people over 60yrs is great. You do have to pay extra for 13 numbers and mobile. I get 5G a month, all local and national phone calls. If I go over 5G I just get slowed down, so there is never the worry of a huge broadband bill. For mobile calls I use amayzin which is only 15c a minute, no flag fall. You can spend as little as $10 over 90 days.

I am going overseas to the UK, Austria, France and I would like to take my laptop (and mobile phone) so I can stay in touch with family and friends in Oz. Any suggestion as to the best way to get myself off and running with the laptop and phone over there ? Can I buy prepaid internet and pre paid credit voucher for my phone?

Gday Moni

I usually buy a local SIM card if I'm in one area long enough. I took a laptop once and used free hotspot internet access but hated carrying the laptop. I now have a so called smart phone that does everything I want of a phone and laptop. So I guess it's all about personal choice and preferences. If you pick your hotspot you should be OK. Do you want fries with that. (lol)

No thanks, cheeky, I'm on a diet. But thank you for the advice. I may check out a smart phone.

I ditched Hellstra over a year ago and use two moblie phones, one is post paid and the prepaid I already had. My Virgin post paid plan costs me $29 for $450 worth of text and calls. I make some calls and texts on my Sony Ericcson XPeria smart phone and access email and Facebook on it. I also make calls to any mobile or home phone in Oz for 35 cents connection fee with Hello Mobile. My mobile broadband is with One Seniors where I get 5G for $30 a month. This the best value for money that I could find in my area.
