It would nice to travel around Australia by train to each Capital City, but that is impossible. Gough Whitlam tried to get a rail lline up and running through a cheap loan from the Saudi's. It would have been completed and the loan paid for in full in 1992. People think that the Government run Australia. Not so. It is the bankers and such. They said, "We've got to get rid of this bloke, he's taking our business overseas to the Saudi's."
They didn't offer the same cheap or cheaper loan, they just stopped the project. Try travelling around Australia by train, now. It is WORSE than travelling through different countries in Europe and elsewhere. It's a shame and a blight on us. Just try travelling interstate, say from Queensland to Victoria. It is an absolute JOKE. It would really be a great attraction for visitors if we could travel by train around Australia. JA
