Understanding what is your normal resting heart rate may help identify situations when your heart is not functioning as it should. Taking your pulse is a tricky business but once you’ve mastered the technique, it’s a useful talent to have.

Some people find it easier to take their radial pulse, the one on the inside of your wrist, while others can more easily identify their carotid pulse, the one on the side of their neck. And keeping in mind that your thumb has a pulse of it’s own, you may be wondering where to start.
