Seniors Card – What is it?

31st Oct 2011

Every state and territory in Australia makes available Seniors Cards to its older citizens so they can obtain discounts and concessions on a wide range of goods and services that they purchase.

These benefits are provided by participating commercial operations as well as government departments. There is no cost involved in obtaining the card, as it is treated as recognition of the work seniors in each state and territory have done in the past, and in many cases are still doing today, to help make Australia the country it is for its seniors to enjoy. The Seniors Card is not a credit card but it allows the card holder to receive generous discounts off a wide range of products. It is generally available to Australian residents who are 60 years of age.

The Seniors Card is administered by the separate state and territory governments and so the benefits vary within the different jurisdictions. Some benefits are Australia wide and many are similar within the different states such as concessions on public transport, motor vehicle registration, art gallery entry and entrance to many national parks.
