Shock changes to Microsoft Windows
| |
Microsoft is set to shake up the computer industry on Friday when its latest operating system, Windows 8, is launched. With Apple slowly gaining more of a market share every day, these radical new changes could deliver the knock-out punch to the Apple brand of computers.
So, what is so radical about the new operating system? Firstly, Microsoft has designed the new Windows 8 as a unified operating system which allows the software to work on tablet computers or PCs. It allows you to use the traditional mouse and keyboard as per previous versions, but Microsoft has designed it to work more efficiently with touch-screen technology. The biggest change is the revolutionary interface. Microsoft has done away with the old ‘desktop’ setup and the new look interface is based around customisable start bar icons. The new interface is expected to be difficult to get used to and to counteract this learning curve, the new operating system includes a start icon which opens up the old desktop view.
The new operating system should reduce clutter and speed up the computer while gaining the user additional minutes of productivity throughout the day.
I am still undecided on the new update and, before going out and purchasing a new computer with Windows 8, will be seeking the advice of the early adaptors.
