Basics Card...in the paperstoday

Here we go again.  The Basics Card is being trotted out again.  Yes, it will be of help to those who need assistance with making ends meet BUT for those with an alcohol and drug problem there is always a way around it.

Blind Freddy can see that a person who is supposed to only use this Basics Card to buy food etc (no alcohol or drugs) will get around this by offering to buy groceries for someone (probably at a discount) and then they will be given money in exchange.

Off they then go to the pub to get supplies or off to the local drug dealer.  Easy peasy!!

I ecpsect this card will be abit better than the gossip as those on it interviewed on ACA were hapy and said liked it so cant be that bad. Also it can be set to just be declined in trying to buy grog anywhere. Easy to program computers to decline in certain shops that sell alcohol. And if they can data mine and the big stores all do it, then Centrelink will be given access to these cards data to check on what is being bought.

At same time would like to see vouchers for kiddies monies too. As this is being spent on PayTV TAB Grog etc not the dole as much and if have 3 pr more kids well the money is greater. Hence some have 8, 9, 10 kids now with having had a baby bonus.

Not all mind with large families are on welfare. Many middle class families with kids get huge tax cuts under A too.

Nothing like that when most of us were working. And women paid single rate of income tax too and now of course if married getting a lot less than a single woman.

I agree with the Greens. It is patronising and paternalistic. Surprised you agree with this measure Pete since the LDP portrays itself as championing the freedom of individuals, even to the extent of their right to carry guns.

Like all supporters of parties we do not agree with all their policies . I certainly do not agree with the carrying of guns .

I do not agree with freedom of the individual to harm others . The policy of control of how tax payers money should be spent , in extreme circumstances is to protect women and children...

Who is to be controlled? Some or all? If "some" who decides who those "some" are? All Aborigines? Some Aborigines? Some whites and Aborigines? Everyone? Exactly where are the lines drawn around this card?

Yes Catsahoy. Your words ring so true.

But its not just wives

I know husbands in the same situation.

The wife controls the money, and he only gets an allowance but only if he does exactly what she says.

Such a card with his name and private pin would be a god send for this man.

Does your wife control the money Denzel...have to ask...how much allowance do you get?

My dear wife passed away a few years ago dear Fleur

I was referring to a friend.

He confided in us a few years ago of the abusive relationship he is in.

Poor chap cannot bring himself to leave the shrew

Sorry about your loss Denzel, your friend must have gone through hell.

Hello Seth

thanks mate.

Yes . Poor fellow. Had been going on for years . Being a man he was too ashamed to share his secret. Suffered in silence.

im sure there are many men in his predicament

Yes I agree Danzel it is not just women that suffer in some relationships ... there are some very aggressive women around and you have to feel sorry for their hen pecked husbands.

Usually abuse is physical when men attack women so the attack is more visible but when women attack men it is more psychological and guilt driven and the men are too ashamed to bring it out in the open.

Poor man, sure there are others like him too. Know a woman who has coffee with us sometimes always off on holiday by herself etc. quiet gentle seeming husband who she said was not interested in travel. One day she was speaking about a major bit of work to be done in her garden. Someone remarked how did she manage to have such a great garden AND perfect nails. "Oh, I get the Drone to do all the work of course" What a way to speak of her husband. Total bitch.

Denzel on a lighter note, some of us have narrow escapes, as time goes by you may be paid attention by a notorious gold digger, with no heart. Do not mention if you are rich..

denzel,   not to make light of your feiends situation,   but he has the same choice as people say women have,    IF he doesnt like it,  get out and make a life for himself,   it would be easier for a man i presume,  as he would be in the workforce.      IF us women can do it,   so can he,  i assume,

Sadly Cats all women don't get out of abusive situations they are too brain washed and subjugated - same could happen to nen. It need not be physical but psychological damage.

Yes in 1930 the men on the suso was sent up country to work on the roads and camp beside the roads never complained because it was work

LOL

thank you for the warning.

but I am a man of modest means

And I am quite happy on my own Seth

DENZEL,   me again,   why hasnt your friend got his own card and pin, ?     if pensioners , the money is paid seperatly,  into each account,  and each has there own pin,   and account nub,

Good thinking Cats. Impossible for one partner to have total control of the money these days.

Don't know about that some men were so used to the wives taking their wages and giving them spending money maybe their wives just took the card and pin no.

Could happen.

Yes that's true Viv. The money could go into a joint account and the husband's (or wife's) card taken.

Hello Catsahoy

You would think so eh?

But he was a good man. Loved his kids. And perhaps his religious beliefs also played a huge part.

For better or for worse... and all that stuff.

Who am I to judge. If he had made up his mind to leave, we would have given him a place to shelter until he was emotionally and financially well enough to move on.

Very often, the longer the history of relationship the harder it is to leave.

I tend to agree Robiconda.

not unlike the cases where girls abducted for the sick pleasures of men then become sympathetic to their abductors.

The mind is a complex instrument or perhaps not.

we are at the end of the day no different to baser animals. Does an abused dog still not love it's master?

Stockholm Syndrome has been used to describe battered wives no reason why it shouldn't also apply to abused husbands especially with children involved.

DEZEL,   he may well be a good man,   that said,   plenty of women DO get out,   WITH CHILDREN,    and they WORK,    surprising what you can do if you have to,  RUBICONDA,   if its pension money,   cannot be put in a joint account,  for that very reason,    it used to ALL get paid to the man,  but so many women still went without,  they made it so that each has a seperate pension,  in a seperate accout,  DIFFERENT numbers,  even diff centerlink numbers,    unless it is handed over,  no way the other person could get it,

That's not correct Cats. My husband and I both have our pension money paid into our joint account.

Ohhhhh on the pension huh? Interesting! Makes you a lot older than me! lol lol lol .........Doing well are we?    :-)

I have no doubt  you are many years older than Robi...your general demeanour tells us that. People like Robi don't get old..they just continually blossom!! Like me Saint Fleur!!

Thanks Fleur but I don't need to play Foxy's competing game. I find it strange that she would aim something like that at me but not at Cats or others who receive whole or part pensions. Her motives are sus and her comment immature. Rather like a teenager would go on.

Hello Catsahoy

Robiconda is correct.

I dont know where his money is going. All I know is "that woman" controls it.

Robiconda is NOT correct Centrelink  will pay it that way if you have a combined account ...if you have separate accounts they will pay it into separate accounts

So if it goes into a combined account then the more assertive person may take control it.

Hello Abby

Catsahoy said pension money cannot be put in joint account

Robiconda said it can - she is living proof

And you just said it can

So Robiconda is correct. What am I missing.

Or am I just between 2 warring old fools. Seems a lot of that goes around on this site.

Please just leave me out of it

For goodness sake Abby, you say I'm not correct and then virtually repeat what I said. Cats said "RUBICONDA,   if its pension money,   cannot be put in a joint account" and I said it can because we get it deposited into a joint account. How is that "not correct"? I wasn't saying that's the only type of account it can go into. That would make no sense at all.

Since the Denzel/Abby duo are one and the same and obviously having a cyber fight... hoping to put us off the scent...best to ignore IT!! It hasn't worked...hahahah!

How about some Fleur No1??

Hello Fleur

I put you in the category of pathetic old cow a couple of days ago.

What a stupid little idiot of a woman.

Fleur, Denzel is not Abby. He is a koala.

Cats said exactly what I said

Cats is also refering to the old days how it used to be.

You guys are not understanding as to what Cats is saying !!!

You must read the whole staement that Cats made .. not the first couple of words and running with it.

Hello Dens...don't mind what category you put me in...I find you hilarious anyway and so like soloman! Have a pleasant evening

Saint Fleur

No point in arguing with you Abby old chook. It's a waste of time.

I am so glad I do not get involved with this infighting and multiple aliases,

I remain calm in the face of an insult....

" Old chook!!"  that's about right

Mon Dieu Ms Rubiconda,

that is not kind at all, not kind hmmmm

If you are saying that Zuzu said this about Robi...where is the date etc...so we can check out the original context. The song Desperado comes to mind. Bye now sweetie...

Convenient that you have left the date and time off Abby. Not only have I never seen this comment but it is devoid of context. What thread did you copy it from?

She won't reveal where she copied it from Fleur because it's another one of her deceitful tricks.

Are you threatening me old chook?

No she won't Robi...another copy and paste job...I find her a very interesting case to study:

Oops...before I go I think you'll enjoy this Abby ...could be your mantra:

                                                     Desperado"

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're losin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before it's too late

Not your normal screen Pic, Abby is it?

ZuZu wrote

"Mon Dieu Ms Abby, that is not kind at all, not kind hmmmm"

you Abby, not Robi.

Hope that clarifies that one.

Thanks Viv. I figured she had copied Zuzu's avatar and rewritten a comment inserting my name. She even got that wrong because Zuzu calls me Robiconda not Rubiconda.

"Mon Dieu Ms Viv,

that is not kind at all, not kind hmmmm"

Abby you are being quite silly, whoever ZuZu is she is very funny why try to make out she says things she never did or rather corrupt what she said.

Zuzu is a he

Distorting other people's dialogue for your own ends is pretty off Abby.
