All countries in Europe North America and Australasia with a few exception have prospered since 1968.

With or without multiculturism

in Australia - we can't even work on living with 2 cultures so what is this b/s experiment with multi cultural pockets.

I for one realise how fortunate I was to be born in this country and after travelling to quite a few others I thank my great great grandparents who had the foresight to leave Ireland at the height of the potato famine and come here as free settlers.

This to me is the greatest country in the world;  ok it is not perfect but it sure is streaks ahead of many others and in the great scheme of things I find nothing to moan about at all.

It is so easy to moan and groan about life here in Australia but it is a GREAT place to live compared to many other countries. We should be counting our blessings

What does that comment from a detention centre guard say about the type of people the govt lets the contractors hire. What does it say about the culture of ex army types or indeed a section of the army.

The White House Sunday evening condemned a video purportedly showing a mass execution of Ethiopian Christians in Libya by terrorists affiliated with Islamic State.

"We express our condolences to the families of the victims and our support to the Ethiopian government and people as they grieve for their fellow citizens," National Security Council spokesperson Bernadette Meehan said in a statement. "That these terrorists killed these men solely because of their faith lays bare the terrorists' vicious, senseless brutality
In the video released Sunday, Islamic State militants in Libya shot and beheaded groups of captive Ethiopian Christians.

It also mirrored a film released in February showing militants beheading 21 captured Egyptian Christians on a Libyan beach, which immediately drew Egyptian airstrikes on the group's suspected positions in Libya. Whether Ethiopia would -- or could -- respond with similar military force remains unclear.

The video, released via militant social media accounts and websites, could not be independently verified by The Associated Press. However, it corresponded to other videos released by the Islamic State group and bore the symbol of its al-Furqan media arm.

The video starts with what it called a history of Christian-Muslim relations, followed by scenes of militants destroying churches, graves and icons. A masked fighter brandishing a pistol delivers a long statement, saying Christians must convert to Islam or pay a special tax prescribed by the Quran.

It shows one group of captives, identified as Ethiopian Christians, purportedly held by an Islamic State affiliate in eastern Libya known as Barqa Province. It also shows another purportedly held by an affiliate in the southern Libyan calling itself the Fazzan Province. The video then switches between footage of the captives in the south being shot dead and the captives in the east being beheaded on a beach. It was not immediately possible to estimate how many captives were killed or confirm their identities.

The Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was convicted this week on all 30 counts levied against him. He will begin the sentencing phase of his trial very soon. Should he be put to death? Well if being convicted on 17 counts that carry a possible penalty of death is a qualification, I would say so. -- After all, if you have the death penalty law there’s not a more appropriate case to apply it to.

However, Tsarnaev’s mother blames the United States for the troubles her terrorist son is in. Here's her reaction to the verdicts:

[The U.S.] will pay for my sons and the sons of Islam, permanently!" she cried out in Russian this week. "The tears of their mothers will be fuel for them in hell. My sons are innocent, as innocent as all those who are being killed by your country," she said and then added, " Today they are killing Muslims and tomorrow will come your turn and he who doubts this is deeply mistaken! How can a mother feel who son is in the claws of a predator preparing to tear him to pieces like meat?"
