Multi National Car Companies Scammed 500 million from Rudd/ Gillard Govt

IN so far as the $500 million Green Car Innovation Fund was supposed to prevent carbon dioxide leaching from Australian-made cars, it looks like being an outstanding success.

Vehicles manufactured in Australia after 2018 will produce zero emissions, not least because Australia will be producing zero cars.

On 1 March 2011, Mike Devereux ,MD GM Holden , made all sorts of promises after we gave
his company over $180m in grants...

"Mr Devereux praised the federal and state governments for their $149
million and $30 million contributions as an investment in having the
Cruze built in Adelaide.

Mr Devereux said about 30 suppliers in Australia, including SA, had
contracts in the first phase of the Adelaide-built Cruze. One of the
biggest investments in a new model was body panel making and that was
being done at Elizabeth, although the engines were from overseas.

'We will be localising a heck of a lot more content as we go forward',
Mr Devereux said.

He said there was 'certainly potential' to export the Cruze, starting
with right-hand-drive markets such as South Africa and the UK. Cruze had
allowed the second shift at Elizabeth to return, with 265 new jobs,
giving certainty for the workforce".

1. "We will be localising content"
2. A half promise to export
3. Giving certainty to the workforce

What happened to the money?

Holden, or let's call them GM, should *refund* *all* *the* *money*. Was
it all just a publicity stunt?

Or was it Labor's inability to understand the detail?

"Following Holden's successful application for a A$149 million
government grant to build a localised version of the Chevrolet Cruze in
Australia from 2011, Holden in 2009 announced that it would initially
import the small car unchanged from South Korea as the Holden Cruze.

Following the government grant announcement, Kevin Rudd, Australia's
Prime Minister at the time, stated that production would support 600
*new* *jobs* at the Elizabeth facility; however, this *failed* to take
into account Holden's previous announcement, whereby 600 jobs would be
shed when production of the Family II engine ceased in late 2009.

In mid-2013, Holden sought a further A$265 million, in addition to the
A$275 million that was already committed by the governments of Canberra,
South Australia and Victoria, to remain viable as a car manufacturer in
Australia.

Is it a coincidence that the car used in the publicity stunt was deep red?

Here is *another* $396m pissed away by the financially inept
Rudd/Gillard government:

Nice of Gillard to pay $100 Million of Taxpayer's money to buy herself an honorary Professor Status with the Taxpayer's Money.

No wonder we are in Debt into the future.

And here we go again in Shortens proposal he wats to use 500m of taxpayers money to pick winners.

The last time Labor wanted to compete with high tech companies and set up a monopoly we got the NBN at a cost to the taxpayer of 78 billion ...
