Abbott debt and deficit blowout

In less than two years in office, the Abbott government has added almost $100bn to the level of Commonwealth government debt. This is a 35% increase from the $273bn level of gross government debt at the time of the September 2013 election. This increase flies in the face of the Coalition’s pledge prior to the election – and occasionally since – of reducing debt and at some stage, paying it off.

No wonder the debt crisis rhetoric has died down from the govt. Speculation on an early election date to avoid having a 3rd budget in this term has been touted. Too messy in my opinion with need for DD or just lower house election. Would explain the surge in over the top remarks concerning ISIS etc. They are coming to get you says Abbott. Our strange in law at a family event telling the kids about the boogyman.

When John Howard was beaten at the election the LNP left Australia with a very large surplus for Labour unfortunatly Labour ran into the GFC and had to use that surplus they kept Australia going money was handed out to Australians to keep the country going now anyone that thought this money was free have rocks in there head.

wether it be Labour or LNP in government that money has in some way to go back to the government coffers. Because of the hand outs from Labour we think we are being hard done by with the LNP. when we could have in been in strife the Government came to our aid now its timefor us the help out dont look at as helping out the government look at as helping Australia grow again

Would you say our Prime Minister is seeking to calm our overblown fears or is playing them for all he's worth?

Precisely. And I'll tell you why. Because he's discovered he's not much chop at leadership - at inspiring us with a vision of a better future, at explaining and justifying necessary but unpopular measures - but he is good at running scare campaigns, to which the Aussie punter seems particularly susceptible.

But, above all, because he wants to divert our attention from the hash he's making of managing the economy.

Bill Shorten  "not much chop at leadership" either both cut from the same leg of mutton

Abbott is the one who said we had a debt crisis. Now its 100 billion further in the red not a word about a debt crisis from him but but he ramps up the terror spin. IS are coming to get us he says. Well A woman is more likely to be killed by a partner and I am more likely to be hit by a car. Abbott is an effective opposition leader but a dud PM. Dutton is just a dud. Hockey has not got another budget in him or at least one that the govt wants to present to the punters. No one is going to believe the magic pudding economics of 2013 or the total reversal of promises made.

Yes Geo all scare tactics to get everyone under surveilance

They are all liars, and Abbott is the worst and most prolific lieing PM. Australia has ever had, and we've probably had some beauties in the past.
