Abbott gives Japan $50 billion to build submarines!!!
Crackpot Abbott is at it again - he just never stops on his quest to destroy Australia. While attacking the disabled, the unemployed, pensioners, seniors, students, the sick, the homeless, puppies, babies etc - he decides to give $50 billion to a reluctant Japan to build dodgy submarines. Experts claim European submarines are better and would be mostly built in SA but no, the Mad Abbott wants to foster closer defence ties with Japan. I want to know why we need submarines right now? Shouldn‘t the money be spent on ordinary Australians in ways that matter instead of dodgy submarines that we most likely don‘t need. Abbott is a fraud!

I feel no one really knows what we will need by the time they are built whatever they may be.
Whatever it is I think it will be an off the shelf design.

Well, what was being said was that Abbott had already made a secret deal with the Japanese PM, another Captain‘s Call. Which lead to warnings from S.A. politicians from his party in the media early morning. Which forced Abbott to make an evasive speech midmorning.
Apart from that the figure of $50 billion is unbelievable. Who will be laughing all the way to the bank. We must be a laughing stock in international defense circles.

The 3rd largest defence force in the world, that of India, has been denied a rifle upgrade for its infantrymen. The Indian government had planned on spending what would amount to Australian $1 billion for up to date rifles from a Czech company but decided to wait a few more years, despite having forces in active duty on two fronts with Pakistan and China in the Himalayas. India is the world‘s largest arms importer.
So, again I ask, why does a small country in the middle of nowhere need to spend $50 billion on shonky submarines.
Well Booky we have to make choices on our defence we can't afford everything .
My choice would be off the shelf Virginia class subs leased from the U.S.
Cancel order for fighters and order drones .
Dont build any more surface Ships . Except the
fast stealth ones from Austal .
Don't ever send our troops overseas to fight unless we are threatened with a direct attack .
Disband the regular army except for a core training group and officer Corp.
make it compulsory for everyone to do part time training from 18 20 . Then remain a reservist unti 40 with annual training .

You cannot fight other fighters with drones.
The Austal ships are more for close in support, hence the name Littoral. Not too sure what their speed or sea keeping ability would be like in severe weather conditions.
Rather slow and very bad I would imagine.

If the other mob has fighters they will take out the drones as they have no defence.
Drones are great if you have little or no opposition.
Most countries around us have fighters.

I still don't understand the purpose of us having fighters at such huge expense . It is not World was 2 where we are going to have waves Of bombers over Sydmey .

Your modern fighter would carry a far more devastating bomb load than any bomber from WW2, with pin point accuracy too and nuclear capable if so desired.
Then there are the long range heavy bombers.
One carrier and its aircraft could destroy Sydney and much else depending on the load carried.
A whole different story to WW2.

Carriers are alright in a police action but today they are very vunerable to Missile attack .
If we thought it was necessary to protect our cities from carrier born aircraft we should be investing very seriously in missile technology . Not a one shot fighter aircraft that Can be swarmed ...
They do not really build carriers for police actions though they can and often are used for such.
The USA parks them in strategic places where the full brunt of a neuclear arsenal can be brought to bear. Pressure at its best.
China will not be too far behind with this approach.
Military technology is an interesting area, your thinking does sound a little dated.

Aircraft carriers would be useless in a serious war say a. conflict.between China and the U.S. They would be taken out by Swarm missile attack.
They are useful in Police type action as they are against a unsophisticated foe and give a mobile Forward base.
The reason we are discussing it , is my Contention that Australia should not waste its money on fighter planes . Whose use you seem to propose I is against aircraft over our cities launched from aircraft carriers ..
my reply was better to invest in missiles to take out the carrier or any other bases ..I do not think the dated thInking is from me .

Abbott seems determined to put as many aussie workers out of a job as he can. Well unless they are egg flippers or cleaners that is. Mind you the 457s are doing those jobs as well and at cut rates because they will lose their visa if they complain. He has killed off the car industry and is half way to killing off the ship builders. The huge fish factory is scooping up fish so that aussie anglers and fishermen will be scratching for a feed. Profits go 80% offshore naturally. Our litle monarchist PM is happy to swan around Kirribilli House and invite another royal couple to have another freebie on the taxpayer. Whats Charlie and his missus gunna do ? The Prince did bugger all while here except visit a few places which is odd for a miliary secondment. Military do it easy these days it seems or was t another feeble attempt by out dual citizen PM to build up his birthright and honour his queen. An article entitled ‘Australia‘s Direction On Defence‘ on the front page of the online Diplomat Magazine, at thediplomat.com, is a real eye opener. Goes into the submarine issue, also actual financial figures, and the determination of Tony Abbott to raise the annual GDP spend on defence.
While the spend on ordinary Australians are being cut back to the bone, harming the social and economic wellbeing of the nation, incredible amounts numbering well over $130 billion are spent on defence. Not counting on $50 billion for submarines in a time of economic downturn for Australia.
Seniors, read this article and ask why we are being attacked financially while Tony Abbott has promised to raise the annual spend on defence!
Tony Abbott stated that next year‘s defend spend would be almost $32 billion. $130 billion roughly over forward estimates. He boasted that while Australia is raising its defense spend to 2% of annual GDP, other countries were cutting theirs.
Actually, defence is only one area where vast amounts of our money are being thrown away. One could not run a successful personal or comany budget this way.
Meanwhile this government continues to get rid of good programmes that were cost effectiue and returned value, NRAS, national rental affordability scheme, funding to a long term homelessness program in inner city Sydney, our effective welfare and pension and concessions system, health, education, medicare, CSIRO, seniors supplement, national drug education funding, the list goes on and on. Almost daily they sneakily attack all the things that make Australia good. Family tax benefits, a hard hit on pensions means testing etc
While they live the high life in Canberra, rorting us to the hilt. Joe Hockey getting $270 a day living rent free in the multimillion dollar family home in Canberra and Tony Abbott getting a higher salary than the US president. While they want to raid our super and prevent accmdss to at least 65, they get theirs straight after retiring from parliamentary. They are trying to go after pensioners family homes and stop them retiring overseas. All this and more. Their vision is an USA style Australia, no Medicare, welfare, pensions, minimum wage, education available to all etc. Our rights are being snatched away under our very nose! Very very scary!

The retirement age is 67 courtesy of Labor Party and NOT 65 as you suggest..... that is past history.... the LIbs want to increase it to 70, so from that viewpoint you are very fortunate you are on a Disability Pension.
Most of the $32 Billion on Defence is forward spending left over from the Labor Party for outdated Aeroplanes.
Both the Labs and Libs are continuously pruning the Seniors' welfare.

Last year the USA ordered 10 Virginia Class nuclear submarines for just under US$18 billion.
So why is Australia paying $50 Billion for non nuclear submarines? Incredible! There should be an inquiry.
What happens when a weaker nation rids itself of nuclear weapons? Russia invades Ukraine, takes the Crimea, and a war is being fought over Eastern Ukraine. And could NATO do anything? No, because they don‘t want to set of WWW3.
All this outrageous expenditure on overpriced useless gear is amazing. The USA and other nations don‘t get ripped off. If we have to have submarines, let‘s spend up to 20 billion or so for some effective nuclear hardware. And there will still be a huge chunk of money left over.
