Dawn defends 'racist' Kyrgios comments

Olympic legend Dawn Fraser has defended her comments about Nick Kyrgios after his Wimbledon loss, stating that she is not a “racist person”.

Fraser was questioned on Channel 9’s morning show Today about Kyrgios’ apparent ‘tanking’ of the game and “bad manners” on the court. She said “It’s absolutely disgusting. I am so shocked to think that he went out there to play and he tanked … that’s terrible.”

Fraser went on to suggest that both Australian-born Kyrgios and fellow tennis player Bernard Tomic, who immigrated from Germany to Australia at the age of three, “should be setting a better example for the younger generation of this country” and “If they don’t like it, go back to where their fathers or their parents came from.”

Fraser received backlash on social media for her comments, with some people calling her comments “horrifically racist”, “deeply hypocritical” and “unacceptable”.

Do you think Dawn’s comments were out of line? Did she have a right to comment on Kyrgios' family and ethic background while discussing his attitude on the court?

Just which "race" was Dawn denigrating? - she told these young hoons to go back to the country their folks came from - they might just as easily have come from the U.S., England etc, as I noted earlier. Reference to any other country is now "racist" is it?

Think the correct word is xenophobic rather than racist.

....hoons drive cars - hoons don't play tennis!   :-)

Where ya glasses Foxy? ah said "hoonlike"

Fortunately Ray -  I don't have the need to wear glasses in any way or form!  I was referring to kfc''s comment  9/7 @ 10.47am.  Apology please - or with respect - where are your "glasses"? Or better still - your ability to read comments as they are written ............?

Sorry Foxy, didn't read Kfc's post (only just read it) and thought you were talking about my post @ 6.01 pm 8/7

... thanks Ray- all good!    :-)

Everyone is a rascist in one form or another, we all favour our own, who is so squeaky clean they have not had a go at someones'religion, country because they're different,

DF saying if you don't like it go back, is just what we have been saying to those who want to change our way with sharia law.

Unless Tony Abbott and Bill Shorten become muslims, how the heck will your way be changed with sharia law??????

Ray where have you been since the twin towers? looking for your lost golf ball?    there has been a lot said about wanting sharia law in Aussie, which IMO would be the start, we have all seen or heard what happens to those opposed to certain islamic doctrines by beheadings and other atrocities carried out in the name of allah, in some cases mainly Christions or Athiests, unbelievers.

Tell me Ray why they want sharia law? is it not to change what we have now?

Still looking for golf ball Seth Image result for man looking for golf ball smiley clipart

Have a look in Lets chat left some info

Glad it was a lost ball,, thought you were choking on your porridge.

I think it is pretty off to say to anyone " go back to where you came from". It's a pretty childish and shallow statement.

Robi we are all children who think we have grown up.

I think most have used that astute comment to someone we never agreed with or we are crooked on, even to telling an Aussie to go back where he came from because HE was acting like a spoilt brat. even though she herself once acted like a dill or spoiled brat. It is the disappointment in the player, that is at work,  not that he is from somewhere else.

When did the bunny get so smart

Nephew..... The day I was Born... we are still trying to work out what happened with your side!

Dawn good on you you think like me he is just a jumped up   BRAT       he would be better to go to another country to live and play tennis there not   Australia         we don't want or need you

We do want him and need him, all he needs to do is stop being a brat, better than having a lot of druggie youths jesssej

You folk have told me to return to Scotland many times .........I do but I keep coming back to rip you lot off a bit more. Aussie money ....lovely. OCH AHY

OK Davey...I mean och aye..

Isn‘t Dawn gay? O.K. how would she like it if something she did was blamed on her being gay instead of being badly behaved? And people said, we don‘t want a lesbian living in our neighbourhood. It would be terrible discrimation wouldn‘t it! And nothing to do with her behaving badly. Which she has done on this occasion with her bizarre out dated racist remarks. And she has admitted to being a admirer of Pauline Hanson, saying that she, Dawn, wished she could be as open as Pauline Hanson about migrants.

Dawn, you are a despicable racist. No room for people like you in a good society.

Also, the only real Australians are indigengous Australians. The rest of us are migrants or descended from migrants, convicts and indentured labor.

I hate Pauline Hanson and now I hate Dawn Fraser. I reckon we should parachute them both into Irag or Syria where they can volunteer to do their patriotic duty and fight Isis.

Hate is a strong word bookwyrm, disappointed would be better. Still we all react differently to various people and events.

Spot on about we are all migrants to some degree.

And in a bizarre twist her father immigrated from Scotland...the way she goes on you would think both sides of her family have in Oz since the first convicts.

Good point

Whichever way you look at it Dawn could have had a whack at the tennis player without the racist remark. He wasn,t even playing for Australia but as a pro tennis player for himself. Maybe someone should inform Dawn of the difference between Davis cup and grand slam tennis. Maybe someone should inform her that she insulted every Australian born person of immigrants. She is saying you will never be accepted as aussie by her.

...Hahahahhaaa - some of you people are simply UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Rave on and on about nothing you know about - or think you know about??  - What a joke!  I said along time ago on here - (and got howled down about it!)  when this "old" generation  - with their outdated/bigoted/homophobic/racist/set in their "concrete" ways ....die off!!! .. the world will be a better place!  Sorry - but true!!!

Let the young people take over Politics/the Government - run the world?  Can't do much worse than the "oldies" that have made a MEGA mess of it!

P.S. ..and leave Nick K alone - when anyone has achieved half of what this "kid" has done at the age of 20 - then tll your story - simple as that ..... :-)

Foxy whilst I agree with you about young Nick . I don't agree with your comments about this generation of Oldies .

It was us who got rid of the White Australia racism imposed by a previous generation . It was us that passed laws against discrimination of Homosexuals . It was us that created the greatest leap from poverty or hunger the world has Ever known .

Foxy,

Thought Dawn Fraser's comments in relation to Nick Kyrgios were racist and think she came across as a bit of an idiot re: her comments...

However thought Nick Kyrgios behaved like an arrogant  sulky little sh.t at times and well and truly think he deserved to be told to pull his head in....

And yeah the bloke can play tennis but hell it's only a game,  it's not as though he's discovered a cure for cancer or found a solution to global poverty, so can't agree with your statement "when anyone has achieved half of what this "kid" has done at the age of 20 ...." - he plays the game of  tennis, involving a ball being tossed across a net and hit by racquets well, that's about it as far as I'm concerned - and am often pretty uncomfortable with the adulation heaped on sporting identities.....

What a hypocrite! Dawn Fraser‘s father immigrated from Scotland! Also she really went wild at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Those were very days which didn‘t tolerate ungentlemanly and unladylike behaviour. But she kept disobeying the team rules. And then she upset the whole of Japan by climbing up the flagpole at the Imperial Palace and stealing the Japanese Emperor‘s flag! The Japanese people regarded their emperors as literal gods, descended from a Goddess. The Allies made Hirahito renounce his divinity. I read before he surrendered there was the possibility he could have ordered the entire Japanese nation to commit ritual suicide and they would have obeyed without question.

There are plenty of Aussie and international sports stars behaving badly. John McEnroe was a screaming bully. The current Australian cricket team are a disgrace and an embarressment with their sledging and onfield intimidation.

Winning a game of tennis, golf, cricket, football or any sport is not outstanding, not a great effort from a young man, not even wonderful, marvellous or superb, ordinary, YES.

What, where, when, which, and who benefits in the real world when the pay is obnoxiously high and the sub-human, insignificant Kyrgios person is a narcissistic, selfish, spoiled brat who hits a ball over a net.

Accolades should be given to the people of this world whose talents, actions and abilities benefit the whole world, and unselfishly lay their lives on the line without screaming and yelling like a lunatic that they disagree with the system which they initially agreed to accept.
