What would you rename Northern Territory if it becomes a state?

Australian leaders at the COAG summit have backed a push for Northern Territory to become a state. As well as a minor change to the flag, we may need to give the territory a new name. Any ideas?

Raddy,

I still have friends at Batchelor, havent seen them for years but still communicate sporadically.

Lot of memories of the NT, mostly good. I did see a lot of it in my work including Bathurst Is, even getting across to Timor ocassionaly, the Portuguese were still the people in power back then.

I even had an overnight visit to the old Bennet St Police Station cells, as you do.

Enjoy your visit.

Take it easy.

SD, was the water nice with the bread during your overnight stay?

Seth,

The nice officer in charge was not overly impressed with the duet of High Noon sung by my partner in crime and I though I did note him taking more notice of some bawdy ballads we presented to the other inmates and officers on duty during the night.

Bit of a sing along for a while.

Breakfast was not served, we were let out blinking like seals just surfacing in the early morning light to face His Honour some days later.

Have a great trip Radish :)

The Northern Terriroty is a beautiful place in Australia, unless the people want it to become a State, I believe it should remain the Northern Territory.

What are the advantages/disadvantages for the change?

OMG! Once upon a time, I was actively engaged in advocating Statehood for the NT. But in the recent years I am completely disillusioned. 3 reasons why I'd vote against Statehood: 1) various shenanigans by NT politicians, both sides of politics!  2) limited pool of potential QUALITY leaders; too many interested in politics for the wrong reasons!  3) need for check-n-balance to prevent mismanagement and limit the damage caused!

Whilst the above comment is not a blanket description of all politicians in the Territory, unfortunately I don't have much faith in the pool of political leadership in the NT! ????

Don't need a new name for the Northern Territory! Like it as is.

In line with other States, call it Northern Australia, Kingsland, New South Ireland or Elizabeth.

Maybe follow Tasmania, call it Kleptomania, but no matter what, don't call it something sensible. (sarcasn alert)

To suggest that 200,000 people should form a State is ridiculous. NT is totally dependent on the taxpayers in the rest of the States we should have total say in how Our money is spent...

Part,

When it comes to how our money is spent making Bronny accountable would be a good start, then work our way down. ;-)

SD

In savings in govt spending I would rather start with the billions than the thousands .

If all we engage in is petty party politics then no serious discussion will ever occur .And our billions of debt will continue to grow..

'in line with other States'? Lol - whatever for!

No need to waste time on this topic as very soon it will be forgotten! - Giles 5 seconds of fame @ COAG!

thanks Abby and SD...it will all be over before I can blink  lol, but a week is enough for us.

Interesting town - have a good one Radish!

ty RaY..yes there is only one Darwin lol

Who cares?  No one will ever listen to our views?   :-)

The Northern Territory should remain as it is, both in name and as a territory.

My opinion is based on the belief that we should abolish all States and run the whole show federally.

We have far, far too many politicians in this country.

Sounds good, but what changes to number of pollies would their be?

I D . I've been saying that for years

Name it BANANA LAND.
