Tony Bourke Rorter extraordinaire.
Tony Burke had the option to ask bureaucrats to fly his family economy class on a taxpayer-funded holiday to Uluru, but chose instead to have them booked business class, costing $6500, about four times as much.
“It is, as a minimum, unethical for a member of the House of Representatives to fly to Uluru with his family at considerable expense and charge it to the public purse,” Mr Wilkie said. “The accusations in The Australian newspaper today about Tony Burke taking his family to Uluru is a case in point because no reasonable member of the community would feel that the cost of such a journey should be borne by taxpayers.”
Economy return Sydney-Uluru flights can currently be had for about $475 by booking online.
Mr Burke claimed three nights’ travel allowance at $1497, and the whole trip cost the taxpayer $12,780.74. He yesterday again declined to provide a rationale for why he had his family members fly business class when he could have asked for them to go economy for a fraction of the cost to taxpayers.
Mr Burke’s spokesman provided no response to suggestions the $70,619.59 in entitlements he claimed for a one-week trip to Switzerland, Britain and France shortly before the Uluru trip was excessive.
Mr Burke was Labor’s most vocal critic of former speaker Bronwyn Bishop, His spokesman denied there was a double-standard.
Let us not just pass by Mr Chrissy Wissy Pyne's extrordinary rorts mentioned above. The mind boggles when pollies such as Mr CW Pyne labels pensioners as leaners and then wastes taxpayer funds for his family's holidays.
Shame on you Chrissy Wissy.
