Are your children smarter than you?

I answered a post today that rattled the brainbox enough to think that this could be an interesting topic to allow us to contemplate this question...."Are your children smarter than you?...Its interesting how our children have such varied occupations and achievements ...Here is the chance to compare our offspring to ourselves...I personally have One overseas mining superintendant, One university lecturer, One company director, Two business owners, and One long distance Truck and dog hauler, All very successful in their own field...and all love their jobs. I reckon the answer in my case is definately "No"...Its a pretty even par...with the exceptance of their complicated modern technology devices ..and I am quite happy to be unencumbered with those..which in my mind still makes me smarter. as I can still think for myself...What do you think?

Interesting post Cranky, my children have achieved more that i did but only because i worked very hard and put them through uni.. I have one doing a PHD in business medicine , one a director of  a medical laborotory having a degree in medical science, one a economist heading up a Govt department on investment and one who has 3 degrees education hospitality and Nutrition.Ithink my children are streets ahead of me with what they have achieved workwise but i think i am still streets ahead of them in experience, general knowledge and wisdom.

Oh dear poor Peanuts....your children are definitely smarter than you! There is no such thing as a PhD in business medicine. Are you referring to a degree that's aimed to give people skills to run the "business" side of medical practice?

Here sending you some fairy dust...might help you get it right next time!!

Excuse me but that stuff is getting in my face...and I cant see properly..Is there a reason you jumped down peanuts throat then Fleur, I thought fairies were kind, delicate creatures that fluttered about spreading warmth and goodwill...I object to you denegrading this lovely person like that..no need for it whatsoever...Your'e either a witch or a fairy , you can't be both..that's a personality disorder... Dont you like Peanuts for some reason?..

Actualy there is Fluer i think my daughter as a registered nurse and holder of a Masters degree plus being a retired CEO of a large city general hospital would know more than you. Shove your fairy dust back where it came from , you may need it!

Giggle...you're wrong Peanuts...have a confession to make...I accidently blew you fairy dust from the wrong jar. Very soon you will notice a change to this Image result for hilarious garden gnomes

sorry...the spell won't wear off for another 24 hours!!

When you have quite finished gatecrashing my discussion with personal insults can I get back to my original question...

I'll go and get a cuppa, maybe you will give it up for a spell......

Cranky do you get the impression someone is not quite NORMAL... surely a NORMAL person would NOT be that nasty and aggresive definately showing signs of a personality disorder.Moving on if you have put the kettle on i'l have a cuppa too please  lol..

Actually , I have a strong intuition here that I am contemplating...Is one one, or one two or is there an act of retribution in play between several ?.....I do grow weary of these stupid mind games , my head is full of wonderous learning and there really is no room for such rubbish...anyway if I put it in, I'd be stuck with it until Friday when the dustman comes......I'll  pass......Shortbread biccy peanuts?...

Please make me a cuppa too, with all these "disorders" about, working out who's who is thirsty work.

While you're in the galley, a couple of tim tams wouldn't go astray either!!

I have just made a chocolate cake will that do Micha...out of bickies at the moment but i do have some King Island cream to go with the cake if you like

Cake? Did you say cake? Big slice please and bring on the cream!

Now its turned into a pigout.....or sugar hit for energy of course...Can I have mine without cream please. I am trying to lose a bit of weight......oh...maybe just a smidgen....lolol

Getting back on your Topic having a cuppa myself :)

interesting question seeing as we had tertiary education ourselves didn't consider it before but I have 3 children all with double degrees.

Oldest one Uni Lecturer but a fantastic cook makes great coffee and has a fantastic garden and as a secondary job teaches and helps establishing Community Gardens - which I think he may enjoy more than Lecturing.

Second one Media and Photography, lousy cook but travels worldwide as a Photographer and has a great sense of humour.

third one, my daughter, Media again Web programmer, great cook and handicrafts and can change tap washers and sort out my computer.

Love home made meals from the two cooks but enjoy getting taken out for meals by the non-cook.

I still get phoned up for advice from them all but sometimes phone them up for advice too, so all in all guess we are all pretty equal. It's my grandchildren who are just so clever with electronics that amaze me but there again sometimes they come to me for confidential advice on how to deal with their parents and sometimes I do step in and make suggestions if things get a bit fraught. Taking a chance there, tho. Love them all to bits.

How proud you must be Vivity..I would imagine it would be an interesting conversation round the table when they all got together, The words that jumped out at me were "A great sense of humour"..If you carry around one of those where ever you go and whatever you do, It will help you get through life...sounds like Great family...

vivity.

Your children sound delightful... perhaps you son would be classified as a Renaissance man - a polymorph.

I think that the next gerneration is smarter in many ways from the previous ones.  With the explosion of information and access to it, they must be.

However, whilst the younger generation may read history, many of the older one's have actually lived through it.  Thus, life experience cannot be replaced ... and that is where the older generation come into their own.

What a lovely post Vivity, your children sound like really interesting clever people, love the community gardens ,we have a few around in neighboring suburbs often want to go check them out but never seem to find the time.Just imagine travelling the world with a camera as a job wow i would love that...and i would like to borrow your daughter to programme my computer ..lol it sounds like you have a lovely family lots of give and take and you are still being appreciated for advice, sounds lovely.

Consider it done Micha, hope you don't have a weight problem it's a huge slice with a humungous dollop of cream....lol

Sending you some chocolate cake with cream as well Cranky, hope you like chocolate...

What did you put that down here for peanuts...?...Now I'll have to a large dollop , using up that energy running down the page...

my children are definetly smarter than me, but thats not to say i dont have brains,   i do,    the thing is that in my younger days,   the options werent there for university,   esp for women,   it was almost taken for granted that women would leave school,   get married ,have childen.    so didnt need a colledge education,   its a lot different today,    my eldest daughter was the female to become a bank manager in victoria,  in the bank she wo rked at,     that would not even have been an option when i was her age,    WHAT really amazes me is how smart my grandchildren are,    maybe its because they have nothing else in there brains to compare what they learn, my 7 year old granson fixed a glitch i had in my mobile phone,   i had no idea what i had done ,  ANTHONY took it and it was fixed within seconds,       tyler,  nearly 10 has books on fossils, [an interest that he has]    that some adults would have trouble u,,derstanding,   he reads them like comics,   im amazed at the young ones,

Mine are certainly different from me, and that is a good thing.

Makes them interesting,

SD
