Julia Gillard expresses sympathy for ousted PM
Speaking at a global convention promoting girls’ education earlier this week, Julia Gillard expressed sympathy, nay empathy, for the newly ousted prime minister Tony Abbott, saying: “I understand how he feels, having been there myself.”
Ms Gillard, who was replaced by Kevin Rudd in 2013, said the pain of losing the top job “hits you like a fist, pain so strong you feel it in your guts, your nerve endings”.
Still, Julia seems to be relishing her new position as the leader of the Global Partnership for Education, drew high praise for her now-famous misogyny speech she directed at Mr Abbott in 2012. She was introduced by convention host Cindi Leive as the "first and only woman" to have served as Australian prime minister and was hailed for her passion for education.
"And she is, by the way, fierce," said Leive.
Ms Gillard and Mr Abbott may have had their differences, but, it seems, they now share some common ground, which is a little different from their confrontations during their leadership days. Need a reminder? Watch this video.
Thank you for that. It only goes to show that Julia is a much better person than Abbot could even think to be, that she actually sends him sympathy for being deposed. She should be (and probably is privately) laughing her head off. I still can't get over the shame of my fellow Australians actually voting him in to begin with. He is and was a total embarrassment to our country.
