Another example of a job for the boys/mates

Philip Ruddock is calling time on his 42-year political career to become Australia's first special envoy for human rights.
The 72-year-old former immigration minister and attorney-general announced on Monday he would not recontest his safe Sydney seat of Berowra.

A long career in politics and a healthy super to fall back on and now a top up to make room for new blood. The age of entitlement is alive and well. Downer swanning it up in the UK and Hockey settling in in the USA. Human rights and Ruddock ? April fools day has come early.

DArn right there Geo, makes me sick!

Yes, we should change the rules so that anybody who has ever had a successful Political career should be banned from applying for any job after they turn 65.  At the same time, we should get rid of the Age discrimination Act which allows anybody over 65 to take jobs that should be kept for the young unemployed.  Perhaps I missunderstand you.  Do you actually mean that you want to ban anybody who was a Lib/Nats employee from getting one of these Government Appointments, BUT it is OK for Labor appointments like David Bradbury, The Hon., Peter Durack, The Hon John Bannon, Dr. John Uhr, Sir William Mckell, Sir John Kerr & Kim Beasley, as well as many others?

Apply for a job ? This is a sinecure to ease out a long standing politician in a safe seat. Bronnie Bishop next ? Doubt it after choppergate hassle. Two words out of place in your comments. Ban and apply. Nobody mentions the word ban but yourself and there is no need to apply for a position that is not advertised.

The job was given to Ruddock which is bad enough but the twist is his deplorable history regarding human rights.

I gave my comments & pointed out that the rulee that the Labor supportrs apply is that your real objction is to appointments by the Lib/Nats.  Any further discussion on this point is totally pointless.  BUT, will you please tell me what was Ruddock's deplorable history regarding human rights?

The cartoon above gives a few examples. The children overboard lie is the most deplorable example. Calling a refugee child it displayed a particular absence of empathy or humanity.

Philip Ruddock as 'special envoy for human rights'? Can it get any crazier?

its even crazier than awarding obama the nobel peace prize.

I agree with your comments Innes and I believe once your parliamentary career is over that should be it.

Others as you have said have done it as well.  Mr Beazley, Labor, comes immediately to mind and he has just finished being the Ambassador in the States and been replaced by Downer (Lib).

No point in getting hot and bothered about it...this is how it works...and I doubt it will change any time soon.

I don't care if one belongs to your party, my party or the other's party, this jobs for the old boys is a rort

About tme they took time to spend with their grand chldren.

Everyone knows he and Bronny have reached their use by date but Ruddock had no intention of retiring until the carrot was dangled, it was the only way to get rid of him, now they have to work on Bronny.

Bronwyn should do the right thing and resign and step aside for a younger person.  She has had a good run...time to move on.

I agree Radish, I hate to say it but I think we are out of the loop with the younger generations, which is only natural, we don't think the same, nor should we, yes Bronwyn has had a good run but time to give a younger person a go.
