How Australia compares on green emissions trading

On the back of Kevin Rudd’s much criticised Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, targets are being shifted to the much more admirable 25 per cent by 2020. More assistance is being provided for industry, with Australia emitting 372,013 metric tonnes a year. With Australia coming in at 16th on the list of the greatest producers of the world’s greenhouse gases… is it time to ask if the scheme unfairly criticised?

Comparatively, Britain, has created the strikingly similar United Kingdom Climate Change Programme. In 2004, Britain was the world's eighth greatest producer of man-made carbon emissions, producing around 568,520 of the total generated from fossil fuels. Their new law requires that by 2020 the nation's greenhouse gas emissions be reduced to 1990 levels, roughly a 25 per cent reduction under “business-as-usual” estimates. These are the same levels as Australia, despite there being almost 200,000 metric tonnes difference in our emissions.

China is the worst in the world, producing an incredible 6,103,493 metric tonnes a year - a staggering 21.5 per cent of the world’s total. However, they seem somewhat resistant to climate change legislation.

One thing is for certain, there should be UN ratified blanket legislation that rules out any confusing states/countries doing as they please with their targets. The facts and figures speak for themselves with global warming and, with some of the big boys (China, India, parts of the USA) refusing to play nice, it’s clear that there needs to be some heavy-handedness by the UN to ensure the purity of our Earth for future generations.

On the back of Kevin Rudd’s much criticised Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (which had the goals of 5 % below 2000 by 2020 on a unilateral basis or up to 15% below 2000 by 2020 if also agreed by the other major emitters.)’s targets being shifted to the much more admirable 25% by 2020 and more assistance for industry, with Australia emitting 372,013 metric tonnes a year, coming in at 16th on the list of the greatest producers of the worlds greenhouse gasses…..is it time to ask, was the scheme unfairly criticized?

They have to prove that it is warming first and since it stopped in 1998 and they had to change the name to climate change because of that - does anyone still believe them - I don't.

So even if the left wing UN were to mandate it - not every country would take notice and do it - as with most of their mad muck ups - nothing they do actually works - usually makes things worse and they started the ball rolling with false data anyway.

Lets instead ask the Martians what their plan it to reduce carbon and stop the same thing happening on their planet. rofl

Oh there are no Martians!!! so no carbon generated by burning fossil fuels.

Well then just maybe that is because carbon is not the thing that is causing the climate to vary a bit like it has for millions of years long before man infested Earth - and maybe the many scientists - 31,728 - thousands as opposed to a mere 52 who started this Gore manifested hare running - think it is the Sun and its cycle as usual.

Today on breakfast they were dramatising the weather with strong winds - yeah like 100 k's a hour - normal for this time of year and high temps in the sub tropics as if this is unusual but seasonal. Wow and awful must be global warming hide under the bed!

I'd be hiding if the winds were 160 - 200 K's an hour that is not normal and violent storms.

Anyway a real qualified Meteorologist came on and told them it is normal weather for this time of year as cold up from the South hits the hot down from the North (tropics) and causes storms and strong winds as Spring hits Winter.

Bit like Y2 Bug - this carbon emission's scare is a scam to make money and scare the children and the brain washed.

This ETS could well bankrupt our economy as we - if it was even true - put out less than 2% of the worlds CO2 emissions and once again we will be the idiots doing it just as we were and still are over tariffs - lowering them - when every other country still protects their industries and only pays 'lip service' to the idea.

Lose even more of our jobs to countries with no carbon taxes - then who will pay the welfare bill as it increases and no jobs?

It is about time governments got on with doing the things for the public who elected them and not for the big businesses to make even more profits in return for their donations to political parties.

is it time to ask if the scheme unfairly criticised?/quote]

There has been nowhere near enough criticism or scrutiny imo.

The facts and figures speak for themselves with global warming/quote]

What about the facts and figures from those scientists who dispute the theory of MMGW?CC?

There has been only one side of the 'debate' foisted on to the public. Many scientists and climate experts dispute the statement that the 'science is in'.

We are already paying through the nose for so called research into green energy.(How I've come to dislike hearing that word....green...UGH!!!)

MMGW/CC is the biggest scam ever perpetrated in modern history.

Same here with the high winds we're getting, BigVal. The hushed tones bordering on hysteria coming from people talking about the 'unusual weather', would be laughable if it wasn't so tragic.

We get these winds EVERY year about this time.

I too think this Climate change is a load of crap--

Barnaby Joyce puts it in simple terms:

This is just another tax. It is a tax that is going to come to you from the power points. Every electrical appliance in your house will have a tax on it. The ironing will be taxed, the vacuuming will be taxed, watching footy on a Sunday will be taxed, turning the lights on will be taxed. Who will they be taxing, working families. Then you’ll want to go shopping and what will happen? All your food will be taxed. If you are sick of it and want go on a plane and go away for the weekend, it’s on aviation fuel, you’ll be taxed. Everything in this new world under Kevin Rudd is taxed. Kevin in the shopping trolley, Kevin at the ironing board, Kevin in the kitchen, Kevin on the plane n the plane, too much Kevin makes me feel very sick.

And what is he going to do this for? Because Kevin is going to change the climate. It is amazing, he is going to make that out there different. He told us so, it must be true. The reality is the ETS Iis not going to change the climate one iota. Not one thing will change in the climate because of this new tax. Metaphorically speaking, the difference Australia will make is the equivalent of a the breadth of a hair on the length of about a one kilometre bridge./quote]

Koko thanks again for that link--this GW is a load of BS--and me thinks it is making a LOT of money for someone

To a great extent, it is also the Greens pushing the ETS agenda . They only vote against the bill , because they reckon the targets aren't high enough.

So, imagine if they get their way.

Ron Boswell:

The most significant political achievement this century is the ability of extremist Green policies to dictate the agenda of otherwise mainstream governments.

The coalition between Labor and the Greens is the throne on which the philosopher king, Kevin Rudd, sits. Everything, especially the ETS, must be seen through this red and green prism./quote]

Also, if in Victoria (and no doubt the other States soon), look out for the roll out of 'smart' meters later this year.

Don't know much yet, but have read snippets where it is claimed electricity will cost considerably more, and will most affect poorer people.

First step to remedy the situation: at the next election DO NOT VOTE FOR THE GREENS!

Keep away from every candidate who gives his/her reference to Labor.

I took part (the first time) in a survey about the whole "climate change" hysteria and was quite happy to vent my anger.

The climate is changing (as it always does) and we should get ready to protect ourselves as a country and not to rob the people blind as Krudd and Penny Wrong intends to do.

Our State Government also intends to put in new meters - if you use electricity in peak time, you pay more ...

HELLO! peak time is morning and evening! This is the time when it is coldest and darkest in winter and unbearably hot in summer! This is the time, when people have their shower and cook dinner! These crooks should be shot! :snake:

You bets your bloomin' boots quite a few someones will make a fortune out of this crub we are being fed ,and I don't care which political party is involved , if it is more money for their coffers their will sell the nations poor folk down the drain every time I cannot think of one pollie from any party that I would waste a vote on,, and to add to my misery I find in this case I am agreeing with people who normally send me into a frenzy,, all very disturbing

Local well known and respected Meteorologist in Tasmania has said it is all hype that our weather which has been rain rain wind and storm for last 2 months with only around 5 days not raining is perfectly normal for this time of year and now we are out of drought. So far for August it has rained for every day except 2 as we have put in our potatoes and so haven't had to water them except on those two days (water daily keeps the moth away and gives you better yield) :-)

I am so cynical in my old age - we all used to be trusting of governments when young but actually I do think back then MPs were not so corrupt as they are today and it was a privilege to serve your country by becoming an MP and taking less pay and doing your duty - blimey how things have changed.

These days it is always qualify anything by following the money trail.

Media never asks that question now do they well except for the little people who may be getting paid a bit for their story then they rush to let you know.

An interesting item I found the other day, gives an idea of some of the deception behind some claims.

During an Aug. 5 interview with the BBC, Gerd Leipold, outgoing executive director of Greenpeace, admitted that his organization emotionalizes issues to influence the public. At the time, he was admitting his group had made an error in its July 15 news release that claimed "we are looking at ice-free summers in the Arctic as early as 2030."

"I don't think (the Greenland ice sheet) will be melting by 2030," he said. "That may have been a mistake."

Ice floats in the Arctic Ocean, which Greenpeace said will be ice-free during summer months by 2030. It admitted later that it made a mistake.

Or maybe it was one of those examples that Greenpeace embellished to stir fear in the public? If so, it wouldn't be an isolated case. Others have admitted they're willing to bend the truth in order to draw attention to the cause.

So why all the distortions about global warming? To save the planet, to save us from ourselves? No. To choke economies in developed nations, particularly the U.S.

Thanks again koko for that link

You're welcome.

Unbelievable that lies and tall tales are scamming so many folk into believing that it is actually warming up when it has cooled for a while.

Guess those folk up on Mars are feeling the cooling a bit too - hope their winter was not as cold and record cold too as ours and that their heating bills weren't as high as ours - :P
