Still digesting

I got my letter from the government this morning - I'm still digesting it.. From what i can see, the CPI increase in the basic pension has been swallowed into the basic $30 single pension increase, but the allowances have been increased by 33 cents by the CPI, plus $5 They certainly know how to obfuscate things.

Thank you both for your understandling. Nevertheless it was very frustrating for me, being a non-active returned serviceman (RAAF/peacekeeper) I get the Centrelink Disability Support Pension instead of the Service pension, I am just over 60, single and unloved. Centrelink stuffed up my payments and apparently most probably other veterans receiving pensions from both departments? explanation, as we receive a REDUCED Centrelink pension 40c soon to be 50c in the dollar deduction, their computers viewed us as being Part pensioners when in reality we are Full pensioners as we received the DVA DFISA (the amount Centrelink reduces our pensions by 50 cents in the dollar), Centrelink only credited us with a partial single increase when in reality they should have passed on the full $60 p/f increase. They say the error will be rectified, I shall wait and see. May I suggest EVERYONE look closely at their own individual payments.

MB --Have you got onto them about this as they should back pay if they have made the mistake

MB PlanB is correct. In the defence of centerlink, you can understand why they would make mistakes. If you can read the Act & the regulations based on the Act, you are a better man than me. I have taken some letters, from Centerlink, to friends who have asked for my advice, to a Barrister friend, who just shakes his head.

Just as an example, if a pensioner has a part time job, earning $101 P/W, they have been paid the full pension less 40cents/$ for the $30 income over $71 = $12. They will only get that proportion of the $30 pension rise, as Centerlink says they are only getting a part pension. So, not only do they have their pension reduced by $12 P/W, but their rise will be reduced by approx., 3/75ths or approx., $4 P/W. This means that he is being taxed at the rate well over 50%
