I wanted to watch this one also but mised it .................I would be very interested in any comments also PlanB

Clay, you can go to Nine MSN, then to 60 minutes and watch a video of the segment. I've always been on the side of security, believing if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear. However, having this attitude has probably assisted this "Big Brother" mentality, where people are under surveillance 24/7. Security cameras don't seem to be helping to reduce the incidents of crime nor in catching criminals. They will certainly not deter suicide bombers. After all what comfort is there in knowing who killed your loved ones, if the perpetrators have killed themselves.

As with so many of these intrusions, we accept them initially as being a preventative measure, but then the line gets crossed and it is almost impossible to stop it,

Thanks Pommy ..........a good idea and I will follow it up ..............

Pommy, I sometimes watch a little of those police programs on TV, which always show us how many baddies are caught.

Often featuring segments where the baddies are caught on security vision.

Cynical ole me...I wonder if those programs are designed to make us feel safe and secure in the knowledge that the baddies 'always' get caught.

I'm not knocking the police, they do a mighty job with not enough resources,,,but with the escalation of violence here in Vic, and especially Melbourne, I agree with you....I really don't think 'Big Brother' in the form of more cameras etc, is going to make a lot of difference.

We seem to be going backwards in some areas of crime prevention, and I put a lot of it down to political correctness. But it goes even deeper than that of course. There's an air these days of anything goes...if it feels good, do it. I don't refer only to the younger generations either. It is something that has crept into our society over the last few decades, and escalated rapidly in the last ten years or so.

Thanks again Pommy and I did watch the movie clip ...........I have mixed feelings about the system that was mentioned because the crooks were caught only after they had stabbed to death the young fellow that was featured ..........An indepth system of this kind must be horrific to monitor and pay for both with installations and man hours at the screens

.............

Now having said that I reckon that some system is better than no system but I would advocate for more police on the beat at the coal face............with some cameras operating rather than a proliferation of cameras only and loud speakers indeed.........I have not heard of them being used before but here we were looking at what happens in London

It may come one day that Satellites will zoom in on us from a great hight and I believe that their cameras are so powerfull that they can photo a face even

I am in favour of the system but it would be a bit hard to instal it in our street other than if the cameras were fixed to each and every stobie pole

I will not have a micro chip stuck into my arm thank you ........these fellows can better use a credit card that will scan for integrity of the person and as as charge to them for their grog etc

You have to look outside the square with all this--they are gradually bringing in Big Brother--and down the track will want everyone "Chipped" and they will control what you buy and sell that way--they will do away with cash altogether, as they have already --to a degree--with the cards they already have--and they question any --CASH-- spent over a cetain amount these days. The USA already has all your personal details on every passport and there have been a lot there that have chosen to have the "Chip" they THINK it will protect them. It would be great if all they were going to do was ID the criminals but that is NOT the reason they want it. Also the "Chip" can be turned off if you don't do as they want and so then you would not be able to buy or sell--you just wouldn't exist. So think long and hard about this Big Brother--they bring it in slowly so as we accept and get used to things, as if they brought it in quickly people would be more unlikey to accept.

Mostly it is the older folk that question--but they kids that have grown up with this sort of thing accept without question.
