Harassing our dead soldiers families is unaustralian

Lets hope he does actually do something this time around as it has gone too far - this is treachery!

KEVIN Rudd will "reflect" on the strength of citizenship laws after the case of a self-styled migrant Muslim cleric accused of harassing the families of Diggers killed in Afghanistan.
The Prime Minister said in Canberra he could not comment directly on the case of Sheik Haron as criminal charges were being heard.

But he said: "You know, when you pick up the front page of the Tele today, I think people, I think their stomachs turned."

Iranian-born Haron is accused of a two-year campaign against the parents and families of Australian soldiers who died in Afghanistan. He allegedly wrote letters calling the dead Diggers “criminals’’, “killers’’, and “murderers’’.

His case is certain to raise debate over whether migrants guilty of hate crimes against the nation should be deported, even if they have citizenship, but Mr Rudd said he could not comment immediately.

"I want to reflect on it. I am very careful about what I say in terms of the specifics of this case. Here is a criminal investigation under way," he said.

“But my recollection of the provisions of Australian immigration law is that certain undertakings are made when people come to this country.

“It may or may not be possible to adjust those laws. I’d like to reflect, however, on their application on individual cases and whether any change in the future may be necessary.

“I don’t wish to create an expectation in that respect. I simply want to examine it fresh.’’

Mr Rudd offered his regrets to any family who had been harassed.

“Every decent-minded Australians should be giving those families not just a thought, but a prayer and their support in any practical way when these horrible things are brought back to their memory, and are brought back in a way lacking of all humanity," he said.[/quote]

This is a case which will need close scrutiny. We can't say a lot I suppose if there is a criminal investigation taking place, but it's worth remembering that here in Australia, there have very recently been two groups convicted of planning acts of terrorism. And possibly now a third group. I've no doubt that there are dangerous people among us.

Yes Koko and I tend to agree with the opinion of Tucky re "how do we know that a lot of these boat people are not terrorists"

This harassment is absolutely despicable and should not be tolerated under any circumstances. The perpetrator has demonstrated quite clearly that he has no loyalty to Australia or Australians. We do not need a declared traitor in our midst. Deport him. We don't want him on our shores. He is taking advantage of our democratic society, whilst coming from a country where they would shoot him for speaking out against his own people, without a second thought.

As to Wilson Tuckey, I don't often agree with his outbursts, but on this occassion I'm standing right behind him. I'm not quite sure why the "shock horror' attitude is being expressed or the calls for his sacking unless it's to divert our attention away from the increasing boat people problem.

Normally I can't stand him Pommy but I am right behind him in this--and I can't understand them wanting to sack him either--is it because they really might feel the same way--you know the saying--"He doth protest too much"

PlanB, by 'they' if you mean the Liberal Party, do not want to sack him.

It's Rudd who is saying he should be sacked. And that of course coming from the man in the top job in a democracy where we are supposed to have free speech.

If Turnbull disagrees with Tuckey, that's his right too.

But for rudd to be calling for sacking for merely expressing a strong opinion is not in my opinion, in the spirit of democracy.

I just heard Tuckey being interviewed on 'my' ABC, except I wouldn't call it an interview because the presenter never let Tuckey finish one sentence.

The distortions that come out of some of the media who seem to be simply just another arm of the Labor Party are a disgrace.

We need more politicians like Tuckey, who are not afraid to speak their mind, and who, rightly scorn the mire of political correctness that has bogged this country down so far, I fear we will never ever recover.

I intend writing to Wilson Tuckey to express my support.

Yes Koko I saw that Rudd was willing to have him sacked--and Turnbull also never agreed with Tuckey--like you say it is a free country (so far) and everyone has the right of an opinion--I also agree that the amount of political correctness is way over the top now.

Good on you for writing to Tuckey I might even do that myself

Perhaps there could be conditional Australian citizenship - reviewed after 2 - 5 and 10 years. Those who have met the requirements are then granted full citizenship. For a great many, it would not be necessary, but for others, it may help them become truly Australian.

This is his website, with 3 addresses at the top, to which we can write.

There is also lots of interesting material there also. We are only force fed what the journos want, not even 1/10 of what is really happening behind the scenes.

Thanks for that Koko--will sure write

I know Wilson being from WA myself - to me he is a stereotype of the wonderful stalwart old Aussie who bluntly stated his opinion and you took it or left it - no spin or lies - he tells it how he sees it. Sat with him couples of times at functions over there. He is a laugh a minute and a really nice bloke.

I also like what I see of most WA pollies - like the WA Senator who spoke out on bringing in disease and TB etc because the health checks are not carried out correctly before allowing them to set foot on mainland Australia is bang on - we have had the real humanitarian refugees with full blown aids arriving as well as TB and other diseases because their health check was carried out in the Refugee Camp up to 2 years before they were brought here. Let alone the boat people if they make it on shore as they have in the past and always on WA soil. There has been reports of this in papers.

Immigration is a really big problem these days and about time it got sorted - lets hope someone has the guts to take the bull by the horns and give the UN notice we will not take any more - 12 months needed - as they are processing people who are economic migrants rather than real refugees.

Such as those we saw from WW2 - and who came here and worked hard and now are part of the Australian community so much you don't think of them as migrants - but they were from Europe.
