the pleasure of debating

As a relative newcomer to this site L have found the topics covered to be interesting, informative, caring and humorous.I have joined in some and watched others with interest.
As a site for seniors it is working as each topic exercises our brains and encourages communication with others.
Members have told of their research into subjects and shared the results with everyone else, makes me realise how sadly lacking my own research history is recently.
The title here "pleasure of debating" is something I used to really enjoy at Uni. We were encouraged to research, and also encouraged to communicate with the other team without rancour.
It is sad for me to see some posters who bully and intimidate and have absolutely no interest in any other point of view but their own. Their numbers are minimal but their attitude is non-productive. There was nothing more exhilarating than to be on a team which won a debate, regardless of personal views everyone is entitled to express their opinion, even if it is just to play devil's advocate and stir the pot occasionally.
Sorry if this is long-winded folks, I am now going to play 500 at cards where major decisions are "to trump or not to trump"

:long: Don't ask me Dusty1930, I bragged about it but havn't been game for the same reason as you.

Hi Dusty1930 and lolih. I think you stay just to see what happens next and who says what. Maybe to see who makes a total idiot of themselves (I'm trying not to and so far so good, but I can't see into the future, so stay tuned, I might one day.) Today is like the lead-up to Christmas...I only posted my Christmas cards on 23rd. TODAY I must get my hair colour done. I've been saying that since Christmas Eve. Must be old age - some things which were of the highest priority before are a bit "yeah, later" these days.

Good question, what does happen if you press the 'delete' button and why would you want to?

Easy to ignore any member you do not want to even know is posting and they can do the same just

bring up a post of said person and press IGNORE so then you just see and converse

with those you choose. This is why Admins. has provided the service.

All the best

Phyl.

p.s. hope you do not ignore me though Dusty as although we may not agree on everything

I really do respect you and your opinions :)

It amazes me how the people who are upset because of frivolity and off topics here

are the very ones extremely rude to and about our Prime Minister and also to the Labour

Party in general.

My parents always said Voting is a private issue between the person voting and the

voting booth anyway.

I am certain some people here who seem to think their place in life is to debase the

Labour party and extoll the Liberal party think they are winning voters er "I do not think so"

I vote at the time of the Elections for one or the other keeping in mind the best aspects

of each but they both appear to just break most promises so very hard to win. I feel this

is probably why we just keep giving first one and then the other a turn.

Beautiful day today.

All the best

Phyl.

And the same to you Phyl..............All the best ...............clay..................
