SeaChange to be resurrected on Aussie screens

Channel Nine has revealed it will be reviving one ofAustralia’s best loved and most successful dramas, SeaChange. The 1998 to 2000 series that swept us into the community and drama ofPearlBaywill be returning to Aussie screens! Deb Cox, the series original creator and head writer will be returning as executive producer. Actress Sigrid Thornton will be returning to her award winning role as Laura Gibson, and John Howard to his role as Bob Jelly.

Here’s what we know: Lawyer Laura Gibson will be returning to the small coastal town after almost two decades, except this time “PearlBayneeds (her) just as much as she needs it” says channel Nine. Production will begin in 2019, and the themes of family, romance, tragedy and community are more poignant than ever.

I grew up on the drama, with characters such as Diver Dan, Bob Jelly, Laura Gibson and even the illusive Bucket being household names, hence my mixed excitement and nerves about its return. Can they ever do justice to the original series, or is it at risk of over-working characters running dry?

Nine’s co-head of drama, Jo Rooney, says the series “struck a chord that will resonate 20 years later”. I’ll be waiting hopefully to see is if she’s right.

Will you be joining Laura on her return to Pearl Bay? Or are you as concerned as me about the series not living up to the standard set twenty years ago?

Days of our lives on water......geesh what crap.

Never watched it at all same as all of this sort of show on TV never ever watched even one session  never been interested in fiction even in books

I did watch it and loved it back then, I don't think rehashing is a good idea. It worked on ABC because there were no ads. If Laura is twenty years older, the love interest thing might be a bit of a stretch and we don't have another David Wenham that would make us swoon again.

Saddened that this once iconic show is being rehashed by Channel 9 and not the ABC...I would like to give it a go but dont want to be bombarded by ads telling me its vital I buy funeral insurance or how good Coles is (not) and/or Woolies (also not)

Exactly my reason why I will not be watching it; I do have a gadget to zipp the ads out but then it makes you realise how short the show actually is. These days I watch the old shows again on DVD and sometimes on the internet.

Love this show..will be taping to avoid the adverts...

Loved the original SeaChange ... to the extent when we visited Barwon Heads ... stayed in 'Laura's Cottage'.

What a stunning spot even without the fame attched:

• SeaChange
• Cadel Evan’s cycling training area, winner 2011 Tour de France
• Barry Crocker were born there
• Closing scenes of the 1959 film On the Beach filmed there.

What more could you ask for LOL.

I loved it at the time. I'll give it a go, but should be on the ABC. How stupid of them to turn it down. But where is William McInnes? He's the 'love interest' I want to see.
