Foxtel and discrimination

Can anyone explain why Foxtel are able to discriminate against Seniors and Age Pensioners based on where they live. This is taken from thier site http://www.foxtelsen....au/default.htm ,Available only in NSW, VIC, QLD (excluding Gold Coast, Norfolk Island), ACT and WA (Perth only). Not available to customers living in Foxtel areas serviced by Austar.

I believe that being in the country already means we pay extra  for most things, this package would allow our senior's to access pay TV at a reasonable cost.
Foxtel are classed as one company, they should offer this package to all potential customers in Australia.

For me the biggest reason for wanting the Seniors Package was cost. I used to have Austar but it became to expensive ( $110 a month when I gave it away) With the Seniors package I could get the same channels that I watched ( ignoring the channels that I never watched) for about $60 a month. Being on a pension would have made this viable.
It seems that Foxtel have decided to be seen as good community members by saying look what we do for the Seniors but making it so restrictive that it doesn't cost them to much money.. Its only available for city areas that have a satellite connection and they do there best to keep its existence quiet. Try to find it on the main website.
Foxtel should not be able to get away with this, its discrimination.

Hi Geoff - Take it up with your local member.  Country people are at a disadvantage on many fronts.  Get a petition going to support your views, then present it to your local member, both State and Federal and anyone else who may be able to officially put pressure on Foxtel.

Good Luck

Thanks for that, will give my State and Federal members a call.

Hello Ndy, Just read your post , do foxtel have a special deal for pensioners?, I

recently signed up for 6mnths, mostly because my hubby's quite ill and the telly's one

of his few pleasures but I wasn't told of any special deals etc.

Also, being in SA, we can't get FTA on our foxtel box(iQ2) so we're constantly fiddlin' about with the remotes.

Did you get any results from your enquities?, I'm very interested in this topic.

                                                                          Thanks, Maggie

It's all about making profits folks........just vote with your feet.

Have passed my concerns to my local federal MP, who has passed it on to the CEO of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commision. Waiting for a reply.

Check the link on my first post. this will take you to the Seniors Site with a phone number to call.If you live in the city and have a sat connection you are eligible.Thats the rub as not many Seniors have sat connection in the city but most in the rural areas do.

Contact your federal MP and complain if you are not eligible.
