Hospital crisis in Victoria.

I would have thought that with all the trouble going on within our Vic hospital cutbacks there would have been something about such a serious subject in our chat lines. This was brought home to me the last few days, my daughter almost severed a finger in her car door, went to the hospital and as it needed urgent treatment possibly to remove the squashed part, but  as she would have at least a two to three hour wait for the surgeon, was advised that if she had private ins, and went to Knox it would be done immediately, which she did as having private ins.even though given a pain killer was still in pain. Luckily they never had to remove the finger as a plastic surgeon did a fantastic job.

I know there has been cutbacks by the federal gov't of I think 107M.   and the Vic,gov't 615M?? yes 615million, seems a hell of a lot to take out of a struggling system. correct me if my amounts are wrong,

It is alright to throw 70odd million into a car race that may benefit a few, which other taxpayers eventually pay for in the long run.

Close Tafe ,the training area for trades etc. privatise it.                Millions taken out of the TAC, meaning less funds for accident victims. there is other places where large sums have been taken out.what is going on in Victoria.?

A lot of what you say applies seth.  However, It is all part of the normal political practice in Australia.  The left wing party wins Government & immediately forgets the limitations of income & spends every penny they can borrow under the financial impossibility of Socialism.  Eventually they run out of borrowed funds & start to rein in the shortfall, which they haven't got the knowledge to do.  The right wing party wins Government, by default, & commences drastic saving to save bankruptcy.  The cycle has been going on State & Federal since Federation.  The only thing that is going to save the aged pensioner after the September change over is that any Government that tries to reduce the aged pension is performing political suicide, & they both know it.  This Government has managed to indebt every individual in Australia to the tune of around $10,000, apart from the personal borrowings.  If I am right about the problems that are near in China, Joe Hockey is going to inherit a major problem in September.  Jeff Kennett was probably one of the most unpopular Premiers ever in Victoria, simply because he did what he had to do & restored the State Rating & saved you from bankruptcy.  It would be even tougher in NSW if Barry O'Farrel would get on with his unmet promises.

Innes The story of politics - every new government inherits poor decisions from the one before.  Howard left us the legacy of two invasions which were illegal  under International Law at a huge human and financial cost. Ok he had a big surpus but pensioners got very little under him. He talked about "the Economy" as if it was his "god."  He put Australia in a very bad light with his harsh attitudes to asylum seekers and lies about children overboard and imaginary WMD's.

Abbott was not a very wonderful Health Minister, so I have no faith that he will make any sort of a PM.  Had they had a more credible leader and front bench perhaps they would have been worth voting for.............???

I just have no real faith in politicians to do any better one than another.  The Greens just want to push their whacky ideas. Where are the leaders??? Perhaps we have what we deserve as a nation?

That was well said taskid but I am afraid innes will not hear it. Any PM who would take his country to war based on a lie to suck up to G.Bush would have to be among the worst we could ever have.

And you are right about the pensioner bit.

It is easy to get on here & make statements that are your personal beliefs, even if they are not true.  In general terms the Federal Government does not run the Health System.  It is run by the individual States with Federal Funding.  Just what, specifically did Abbott do, as Health Minister, that upset you so much taskid?  Pensioners got a higher proportionate rise under Howard than they have under the present Government.  If the invasions were illegal under Howard, why did Rudd or Gillard not withdraw the troops?  In fact, what were we doing losing a large proportion of our young men supporting Chamberlain in 1939?  I wouldn't get too concerned about the rusted on political beliefs of somebody who believes that you need a pump to get water from a tap at the bottom of an aquifer.

28 beds closed at Peter Mac.

Many closed at the Childrens.

Sad to say the least.

Innes a lot of what you say is spot on but there is always more than meets the eye regarding the kennett era. this could make good reading for you about the Kennett era,    Both good and bad.

Google.. Privatisations and colocations.then go to Victoria

seth, please don't think that I was a total fan of Kennett.  I will never be convinced that the essential services should not be in the hands of the Government.  I also believe that unless the Government is prepared to nationalise, they should own & run a major competitor in all major industries such as banking & Insurance.  You only have to have a very brief look at what has happened to the Rail System in England to see what is coming here.  One of the biggest problems effecting NSW with international tourism is that the Sydney Airport was sold to the Macquarie Bank & I have been advised that the landing costs are the highest in the World.

What I don't get, is why beds at the Children's hospital are closed.  They get millions more $$$ than any of the other hospitals from the Annual Telethon.

They all like to play political games and blame one another with the sick paying the price,  At the opening of the New Royal childrens Hospital you had the gloating Politicians taking a bow of self congratulation and at the same time one complete ward was not opened.

The Ballyhoo government has been a huge disappointment as I expected better . If 100 million in federal funding has been taken out and it has there are two things to consider . The first is that despite the 100 million revision Victoria has received an increase in funds . The second and I think more relevant point is that Victoria taking out 600 million from health is six times worse but the health minister doesn,t even mention that aspect . Ryan , Guy , Davis etc are all showing that they can talk the talk but in government find walking a problem .

I live just under 1km from the Morwell open cut and there are no restrictions erecting a new mine . A wind turbine under new restrictions must be 2km from any residence . Ballyhoo has allowed the mine out Geelong way , Alcoa , to increase its size to within 500 metres of residents . Having worked in the open cut I can tell you coal breaks down to a talc like substance and blows everywhere . There isjust no logic .

I read somewhere that the Wind turbine are very noisy causing people headaches and stress and illness to the neighbours next to the wind farms

Further the value of their property falls as no one wats to buy next to a wind turbine

Some people claim to have been hospitalised because of this, causing further demand on hospital beds

Of course the bailiar mob won't say anything about their withdrawal of 615 m  from the health sector, they can just go on blaming the last labor gov't.          I never knew whether to laugh or boo when I heard baillieu come out with his mantra, which sounds so familiar to his 'The Nurses, the Police and the teachers, how they will move from the lowest paid to the highest,Now we have the same cry, 'Our parole laws will be the toughest'I never see any posts from so called carbon tax lie pushers, regarding the liberal lies.. Then you have baillieu protecting Geof Shaw after using a gov't car for private business deliveries to Sth Aust and NSW, that should deserve a jail sentence on it's own. or be sacked immediately. imagine doing that to your employer? you would be dismissed immediately.

I have heard the same Abby and checked it out . The group promoting the health concerns has an unregistered doctor as a spokesperson and funding comes from coal type businesses . I,m speaking in general terms here but there are more specific data on the web . Strangely ill heath is directly connected to people who have a neighbour who suffers no symptoms but is paid for having turbines on their property . Also it may be of interest that a property in a little known area of Victoria helped push the barrow on the 2km zone . The property belongs to the Wooldridge family , one of which is a current serving member of the Ballyhoo govt. and another is the former federal health minister . Remmber the MRI ? debacle , info released to doctors before the government announcement  . Its a classsic action of the big tobaco mould . Anyway thats my two bobs worth . cheers

Whatever is the truth but I sure would not like a noisy contraption like that next door - I even hate the sound of the wind especially after the tail end of Oswald came through.

In Europe they have solar light farms which do not disturb the serenity of the countryside.

yeah Abby, i agree. solars the go. just when heaps of people were benefiting from putting solar on with good rebates Gillard knocked back the solar rebate. knocked back the LPG rebate as well... so 2 green energies go south... typical of the aussie govt.
