What was the main thing made you buy your current house?

For my cute husband and I it was having 3 toilets lol.

This is an older nicely renovated older home.

Are we weird? probably lol.

In 1984 the price, location and potential to extend. Remember interests becoming capped at  13.5% and 2nd mortgages at 17.5% those were a real killer in the "recession we had to have" according to Keating?

After the war things were still hard to get, the wife and I were looking for a home to buy , we chose a solid brick edwardian house in Coburg, the price was 1.000 pounds,  My father in law said that it was too expensive and prices would come down. I was able to get a block of land through a returned soldiers scheme at a very reasonable price of  120pounds. {$240} in East Preston, I built my first home there, it took me 18months working on it whenever I could, We lived there for five years and with two young children and my business doing well decided to make the move to near the water.  We were able to get a corner vacant block with the beach {Half Moon Bay} at the bottom of the street. A secluded school with huge playing fields for the children, and surrounded by those wonderful retreats, golf courses. Have raised four children     and their children, have spent many a holiday here,Now it is our great grandchildren's turn, three boys. The wife and I have been blessed and as our time is nearing the end, and on this day of all days. We thank God.

Not far from me ....put the kettle on Seth

How dare you make me cry Seth :(

Tea is an English drink, what's wrong with a scotch.

Sorry Phyl, never meant that, hope all is picking up and you are feeling a lot better.

House .........correct English.

Using the word home to describe a house WRONG.

You can not sell or buy a home because it is a word meaning the place where I live or was born.

My home could be tent / caravan / cave / or prison but it is still MY home.

I can sell my house and get a new house which will be my new home.

My house here near the beach has been a good investment and is worth four times what I paid for it 12 years ago.

Davey your remarkable use and knowledge of the English language is astounding!!!      I hate to point this out to you, but if you read it again you may stumble on the fact I used the past tense as it had been my home where we had lived.

You were looking for a home to buy...........you can not buy a home because it is somebody elses home.

You could buy their house and then make it your home.

I built a home for my youngest son as a wedding present in 1992.  He got into the higher income bracket & bought an acreage property in 1999.  I bought his existing home from him as I knew it was well built.  I am still living in that home that I built.

Then again you are a man of many talents Ken. What a lucky son.

Hope your cats are well :)

Be good but have fun and go easy on that Turkey stuff b'cause it could go to your head.

You can not build a home...............only a dwelling.

Common use of bad English does not make it correct.

Call it what you prefer Davey, but I live in my home that happens to be the dwelling that I built for my youngest son & his new wife.

I bought this house off friends that had built it--the 1st time I saw it I loved it--why ?

It is close to the water in a wonderful part of our country--it is on a large block and so NO near Neighbours!

Has a nice view and I still love it 26 years later

Sounds beautiful Jane

I am feeling absolutely devastated. A big Albany Woolley Bush died in my back garden so got hold of a local tree surgeons  to take it out also to trim one in front and trim back the Bottle brush phoned them told them I would get back to arrange when as too busy yesterday for it to be done as would not be in and left back gate locked anyway. Came home yesterday and ended up in tears, back not touched but my tall bottle brush hedge cut back to only 4 feet off ground and no green left on it, rest of garden they had gone through cutting everything back to about 4 ft of the ground in cluding the top off a 15 year old Rottnest Island Pine! We hadn't mentioned them touching that. It all is a very open and no privacy and as my neighbors said it is vandalism. Phoned the guy up said he had just sent a "team" in and hadn't seen it but not to worry it would grow back and look lovely. Coming tomorrow to look at it and had the cheek to say my Rottnest Island pine must have had disease in it. Looks like a bunch a maniacs with power saws were let loose.

Use the modern system vivity.  Sue the vandals.  I presume that you have not paid them.

No not paid them the guy who "runs the business" is coming round tomorrow to have a look at what they have done, he must have given them verbal instructions only of chop everything down. I think I am going to have quite an argument, going to ask my Neighbour to be present too as now their garden is totally exposed too.

Do you have photos of what they destroyed vivity?  Your local Council may also be interested.  The fact that the contractor did not actually attend the site will weigh heavily in your favour in law.

Thanks Innes I was wondering who to talk the council is a good idea. Re photosn the  Old pictures on Google maps do show the trees and also I may have pictures from last year of the Rottnest Island Pine closer. I was mowing the lawn when I saw the phenomen of the whole tree looking as tho it was billowing smoke and in fact it is how it self pollinates by releasing all male spermatozoa? at same time. so took close ups will check. Funnily I only just realized I did not get the firm I wanted as these ones flyers are almost identical to the firm I did want!  I wonder if the other firm knows.

How did your meeting go with your contractor on Saturday Vivity?

I feel for you Viv. what a horrible thing to happen. They deserve to be held accountable. Dosn't help the immediate situation for you and your garden though. How lucky to have pics. Good on you.

All the best

hugs

Location, location, location. Love our home. Love the surrounding bush and the not too distant beaches. Close to all amenities. Love our neighbours. It's a love fest! Love it so much, we bought the house next door as well :)

Anyway, the house wasn't ideal when we bought it, bit small, but we extended and made it our own. As they say, they will carry us out in a box.

Sorry to hear about the vandal tree loppers vivity. Hope you got some satisfaction when you talked to the owner.
