Crime with no time

Downer: Do the crime, but shouldn't always do the time

There've been many instances of repeat drink driving, assaults etc where the offenders are given suspended sentences and in some cases just a good behaviour bond which has caused people to think that  the courts are too soft and don't consider the victims but also there've been instances of folk being locked up for relatively minor offences such as unpaid fines , white collar crime etc., what do you consider a serious crime ( apart from the obvious, murder, sexcrimes, torture )

Link doesn't work? Grrrr! it was a blog by Alexander Downer in todays news.

here it is in Adelaide Now

Thanks fwed, d'you think he's right then?

A serious crime is anything that hurts another person/animal

Any outright scam

Any crime against children (could be anything including supply drugs/alcohol)

Any crime that causes a person to lose money (keeps you off work)

Any crime against your personal property (break enter/steal/home/car)

Any crime that has you off to the Doctor/psychologist

All the above put you under stress and duress and jail time should be a given not option.

But I think traffic offences unless an injury is caused should be big fine, loss of licence maybe, but if say double speed limit (licence cancelled 3 years, back on P Plates 1 year) second offence (licence gone for life, dispose of vehicle)

Drink drive low range ( Licence cancelled 6 months, resit driving test) Fined.

Drink drive high range ( Licence cancelled 3 years, resit driving test,P Plates 3 years) Fined

Thats about it,I would make a hard Judge.

Cheersxx
