I think that is why the Labor party wants to throw more money on education as they can see that they cannot spell.

It was changed to Labor in the thirties .

Why,its still Labour in the UK and NZ,just seems American to me thats all, just seems odd to drop the "U" and in the 30's too!

I thought the name changed to Labor in 1912.

According to Wiki "The ALP was founded as a federal party prior to the first sitting of the Australian Parliament in 1901, but is descended from labour parties founded in the various Australian colonies by the emerging labour movement in Australia, formally beginning in 1891. Labor is thus the country's oldest political party. Colonial labour parties contested seats from 1891, and federal seats following the Federation at the 1901 federal election. Labor was the first party in Australia to win a majority in either house of the Australian Parliament, at the 1910 federal election. The ALP pre-dates both the British Labour Party and New Zealand Labour Party in party formation, government, and policy implementation."

Your probably right fwed . I knew it was quite a while ago and someone called King O'Malley had something to do with it .

I have had a look at this on a number of occasions.  I have never come up with anything definitive, so I personally like one of the more popular stories of the Labor devotees.  The story goes that there was a meeting of the Party at Trades Hall to plan Election Campaigning for the Federal Election.  After a few drinks, Pamphlets were hand drawn, by one man, as they were authorised, & all sent to the printer with the incorrect spelling of Labor.  By the time that the printing was finished & the mistake was recognised, the cost of fixing it was too big to bear, so the new name was adopted in 1912.

Thank God Julia has gone.

Davey,

We live in very interesting times ... albeit a bit hard on the electorate.

Labour is what you feel when having a baby.

Labor is what you get when being screwed by Julia.
