ashes 2013 and cricket in general

anyone watching the ashes

poms on top. they are a good team

its good to see the aussies being challenged now by the english and the indians

i do miss the cricket of the 70's when windies and even england used to give the aussies a run for their money

noticed thommo there in the stands always with a beer in his hand.

ian bell, young joe root, and the whole england team remind me of viv, lloyd, greenidge, holding, garner etc.

brilliant and exciting cricket being played. was getting boring there for a while with the aussies winning everything in the lasr 10+ years

billy

There are more than 900 species of crickets. They tend to be nocturnal and are often confused with grasshoppers because they have a similar body structure including jumping hind legs. Crickets are harmless

down 2 nil

3 more tests to go

there's still hope yet

Dont hold your breath jaguar - we will be "done like a dinner". In recent yours, we have had a spate of retirements of our senior, talented and experience players. The current team is just not in the same class as earlier Australian teams and while we wish them well, the writing is on the wall.

I am delighted at the way the poms are playing.  I have eaten enough humble pie over the years to last a lifetime, so it is good to be able to win a few points with my graandson for a change.

Isn't it great that we all have different interests, it's a pity that some people just don't accept that, and even choose to comment on things they are not interested in, which they are entitled to do, just seems such a waste of time.  I think the saying that "empty vessells make the most noise" possibly applies here.

Go the Poms, the Swans, the Brumbies, the Storm and the Crocs.  As a female (in spite of my pic) I love sport.  Those who din't, I just hope you have something to get passionate about.

You are right about one thing Pommy "empty vessels make the most noise"

billy

Yes the wheel turns Pommy . One of the reasons I rate Alan Border so highly was his leadership when Australia was similar to now , losing . He along with others got Australia back to being a top team . They used to call him captain grumpy but he didn't accept losing and showed it . I reckon Australia should make it policy to have a test team devoid of any 20/20 players . Test cricket is a long haul game requiring patience and skill .

Good luck to the English side, but its supposed to be a "gentlemens" game, why dident Stroud walk,it was obvious to him and he should of walked, thats cheatin, but only cheating himself.Havent watched it since then, dont like cheats.Thats what stopped me and that only,Stroud should of walked away from the crease with his head high,he chose not to and copped the criticism for it,pretty sad sportsmanship.

billy

i think you mean Stuart Broad

Haddin did not walk either when he nicked it. Emglish had to challenge the not-out decision. DRS showed he nicked and was then given out.

typical billy - only see's his side which is more often than not wrong

I meant Broad,I stopped watching immediately he dident walk,I was enjoying too,but that was bad,I played cricket for years at school, and the rule is that you are the only one who really knows,so you walk, its like diving for a catch, only you know if you got your fingers under the ball, nobody else but yo!

Thats why it is called the "Gentlemens Game",do the right thing even if it means your team loses.its called honour, even the Queen had a go at him when they met later.

Ricky Ponting was the one who changed the honesty rule. He berated Adam Gilchrist for"walking", stating that you should always wait and abide by the umpires decision.  The introduction of DRS has made a mockery of the game.  I would prefer honesty, but only if ALL players are honest.

DRS is a sham in this Ashes series . I prefer the Gilchrist example . Broad was blatant and inexcusable while the others were not quite as clear cut .

It does not matter that Ponting berated Gilchrist,Gilchrist played by the rules of the game,Ponting wanted to be known as the man who won more tests than anyone else, its not about the team or individual its about the "game"

Like Rugby League years ago when the Broncos actually thought the "Game" was about them to the exclusion of the rest of the ladder, they got sorted,Broad was a cheat, that was a big whack not a nick,it was bat to glove from my view and caught,he knew, hes not a sportsmans fingernail.Hes a nobody whose only claim to fame is his abilty to be dishonourable, its not about Gilchrist at all.
