WA Government budget

he WA Government concedes the state has a 'problem with debt', in handing down its first budget since the state election in March.

The Barnett Government expects to post a surplus of $386 million over the 2013/14 financial year, with debt predicted to rise to $22 billion. By the 2016/17 financial year, debt is expected to blow-out to $28.4 billion.

Not my area of interest ( Vic ) but thought it may be worth a look for our WA members . Who better to air views than the people on the ground which means not me .

 'Dire state'

The Opposition's labelled it a budget of broken election promises and "botched financial management".

Shadow Treasurer Ben Wyatt said the Budget confirmed the State's finances are in a dire state, and he was particularly concerned about a projected blow-out in State debt to $28.4 billion in 2016/17.

"Mr Barnett's out-of-control spending has effectively maxed out the State Government's credit card and future generations of Western Australian's will be left to pick up the tab," he said.

geo, the above last sentence says it all money not spent on necessary infrastructure but on grandiose schemes like Elizabeth Quay, all it means is once again when Labor get back in they will have to start replacing necessary infrastructure e.g. ageing main water pipes the best that this government has done there is to decide to drop the pressure to conserve water against continuing loss instead of embarking on replacement.

No doubt Barnetts construction & development mates have been  making a lot of money just the same as when we had the Courts in power. This state should have reserves not debts. Makes me so angry.

Colin Barnett is trying to buy favour with the public, half of Perth city is closed down most of the time to fix up the railways, hes wasting money on a new unwanted Stadium when the hospital system is in tatters, seems he just wants to leave a legacy,he knows he will not get voted back in,but to increase his staff wages within 1 week in office and say thay Fiona Stanley Hospital can wait, and the Princess Margaret Childrens hospital too can wait, whats he thinking,he has just rearranged all the local Perth councils after promising he would not do it,whats his problem? Spend, spend, spend, hes a fool,a very selfish fool.
