Move back to Britain? No way

I have never left Australia since arriving in December 1968,never ever owned a passport, why? Because i still have not seen all of Australia, and i have worked along side every nationality here in Oz including an Eskimo? he was a native of Greenland,an inuit and he was working in the NT as a trades assistant.

Heres the story:-

More than three-quarters of British expats would never return home out of choice, a study has revealed.

The research, carried out by financial advisory organisation the deVere Group, showed that 77 per cent of expatriates said they would only consider a permanent return to Britain if it became untenable to live overseas due to financial, health or family concerns.

A total of 653 people were polled in several global destinations popular with British expats, including Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Barcelona, Cape Town, Dubai, Hong Kong, Marbella, New York, Nice and Zurich.

Nigel Green, deVere’s chief executive, said: “The findings highlight that the dream of living and/or working overseas is alive and well.

“This poll underscores how regardless of whether people are drawn to a country because of its lifestyle or because of the career opportunities to be had, the vast majority consider themselves more content abroad than in the UK.

“Most of those interviewed said that it would take seriously poor health, a personal financial crisis or a family emergency for them to even think about moving back to Britain.”

The news comes after poll results released in May by another firm, Global Visas, showed that one third of those who leave Britain’s shores end up coming back earlier than intended.

A total of 1,246 expats who returned in the past year were questioned about why.

The top five explanations given by the participants - who were allowed to choose multiple reasons - were financial difficulties (62 per cent), homesickness (47 per cent), cultural differences (44 per cent), visa expiration (39 per cent) and lack of social interaction (27 per cent).

The deVere poll revealed that a better lifestyle or superior job prospects were the main factors motivating Britons to leave the country in the first place.

When it came to factors that would stop them returning home, the top three were Britain’s poor climate, high crime levels and high cost of living.

According to the Office of National Statistics, the number of British citizens who emigrated long-term in the 12 months up to September 2012 was 154,000. That was an eight per cent rise on the year before.

I've left Oz many times to see how other places live.

The Aussie dollar is good value over in Europe and you will live like royals.

B & b in UK about $A35 to $A80. Food and grog half the price to here.

I got 7 weeks a year holiday so I had to fill in the time. The Brits all go overseas for their two weeks off LOL.

All my family have been back Davey but not me,I never wanted to come here in the first place but i was 15 and 4 weeks shy of my 16 th birthday, another 4 weeks and i would of stayed i Liverpool.

I was lined up and just waiting for the date to join the "Junior Leaders" which was an army unit that you joined at 16 straight from the Army Cadets, you are on full pay and at the age of 18 you transferred into the "Regs" as a non-com officer,That was bad luck for me,I could not go back as i had no money and i ended up an apprentice for 5 years.

My Mum and Dad went back before he died and she has been back twice,I just never had an interest and was happy gallivanting around Australia as a Boilermaker and Pipe Welder, would i go back now,not sure,i would if fit enough like to go up in the Kimberly and inland across the middle of Australia, nearly did it but health reasons stopped me.

But i like Australia,as it is,been good to me and i can honestly say the only country i have paid taxes in,45 years of it,probably same as you.

I've never been back either... worked in pubs all around Ausralia tho' until 1981 when I settled in Adelaide then trained as a printing press operator and worked with machines until

2010 ...No passport either.. came out here as 'chattel' on my first hubs passport.. he went back after 18mnths and I stayed, always loved this place

You would like Oz more if you had seen America, Malaysia,South Africa, Japan these are the places that I disliked.

I nearly went to USA about 5 years ago,was going to buy a Corvette and drive it around then bring it back, but hurt my spine/neck again so that stopped that, but the only way i could do it now is if i win lotto! lol

I would just book a round the world voyage and relax, could happen, you never know your luck, the guy who rented here in this house won 3 Million last year,he just walked out and left everything here, they cleaned it up and painted it and i moved in,maybe his luck will rub off? ha ha,doubt it!

I win lotto every week by never putting it on and the money stays in the pocket. My Missus enters with her mate at work and they've had the odd small win.

I used to love a punt in UK but it is so bent here I would not even try.

The odds , the bookies, the jockys the government all on the take...no thanks.
