Yoga classes (helping my health and wellbeing)

I have just started Yoga classes with a young lady in Hamilton, Brisbane QLD  and this is helping me tremendously with improving my general health and well being.

Here is a link to her website if anyone is interested.  http://thehealingbalmblog.wordpress.com/yoga/

Has anyone else done this and come to the same realisation?  Would be interested to hear what other members think.

Cherri

Cherri would be interested to hear from you whether you have arthritis and if that is taken into consideration as to the exercises you can perform to your own Level of capability?

Nice to se some one different posting on here hope to see more of you :)

CEBuffett has been a member since 2010

Cherri did an excellent post on Yoga and Health and well being.

The lenght of her membership has nothing to do with that.

Yo Cherri

Yoga is an excelent way of keeping fit for all ages. I find it useful both for relaxation and physical fitness on a regular basis and it costs me $275 per annum which includes 2 hours pw of Yoga, Pillate and Karate Self Defence

You may find it cheaper if you approach your provider and pay an annual fee as oppose to a session fee.

Yoga is the top exercise for increasing core strength.  The big plus here is that good core strength minimises falls, a bugbear of older people.  Remember falls are not a natural effect of ageing, there is always a cause.

Any good yoga teacher will take into account the fitness of the participants and their ability to perform the exercises and tailor the program to suit.

Good on you for taking the initiative to improve your fitness.

Afternoon Vivity, Abby and Pommy,  Thanks for your comments.

Vivity - I don't have arthritis as such, but do often get stiff and sore joints and I find that by doing gentle yoga movements and some beginner poses it helps me to loosen up. The lady who I go to does ensure that a person works within their own capabilities. She doesn't impose anything strenuous and looks at the different benefits that can be gained according to what you are after, or what your needs are. She is also a Psychosomatic Therapist (if anyone here knows what that is), so has a good holistic understanding of some aspects of the body. Quite interesting really!

Abby - Thanks for the advice. Will look into it. I think yoga can be put against a health fund these days if the teacher is registered with one of the recognised associations(?). Will have to check.

Pommy - Yes, agree with you about yoga helping with people as they age. I hear the benefits are endless and I've recently read up a bit on how yoga helps with stability and balance.

Cherri

Cherri :)

I understand a lot of gymnasium fees are also covered by some Private Heath funds.

Core strength is so important for all ages and as Pommy said especially for seniors.

I have done yoga forever :)  but  people who just  want to get core strength and not into yoga,  even sitting typing just starting with the tummy pull in hard touching the back of the chair and breath out,  then slowly release,  and breath in, leting the tummy ballon out, holding for a few seconds so the old air mixes with the fresh air, then breath out slowly counting from maybe starting four in,  hold for two,  and out for four,  until a person  (if they can or want) get up to twenty in hold for 10 and out for twenty but this takes a bit of practice so NEVER overdo it take it slow.

Then move to the midrif pushing in hard to the chair isolating that area  and again breath in, hold, and breath out counting. Now for the chest same thing. This really will help get rid of a muffin  top and help flatten the belly :) if anyone has a bit to much .Yoga graphics<<< his lady looks like a beginner  lol.Yoga graphicsYoga graphics

Yoga graphicsInsted of just sitting watching tele. or typing make it an exercise time.

Becomes a habit but a good one.

Have a special Sunday folks.  Good Luck CEBuffett.

Phyl :)

Thanks for the tips on how to improve your core strength

Any time Abby. I often wonder why women do not all realise the benefits of

Kegel Exercises for Women.

   =

How to do Kegel exercises

It takes diligence to identify your pelvic floor muscles and learn how to contract and relax them. Here are some pointers:

Find the right muscles. To identify your pelvic floor muscles, stop urination in midstream. If you succeed, you've got the right muscles.Perfect your technique. Once you've identified your pelvic floor muscles, empty your bladder and lie on your back. Tighten your pelvic floor muscles, hold the contraction for five seconds, and then relax for five seconds. Try it four or five times in a row. Work up to keeping the muscles contracted for 10 seconds at a time, relaxing for 10 seconds between contractions.Maintain your focus. For best results, focus on tightening only your pelvic floor muscles. Be careful not to flex the muscles in your abdomen, thighs or buttocks. Avoid holding your breath. Instead, breathe freely during the exercises.Repeat 3 times a day. Aim for at least three sets of 10 repetitions a day.

**Don't make a habit of using Kegel exercises to start and stop your urine stream. Doing Kegel exercises while emptying your bladder can actually weaken the muscles, as well as lead to incomplete emptying of the bladder — which increases the risk of a urinary tract infection. This is VERY interesting.

I have used the exercise for a long time and found it amazing as no probs. I copied and pasted as the advice is VERY good. and very well written.

Have a lovely Tuesday night folks

er sorry blokes but you are all old enough now to not get embarassed lol.

Phyl.

Phyl :)

The Kegel should be practised by all women

for putting it up

We should have a closed section for women only

Evening Phyl,  Love the post you put up with the figure movement,  thank you.  Yes learning abut Core strength and realising how important it is.   Natasha (the person I am doing yoga with) is exceptionally good and also has experience in psychosomatic therapy (which is body reading to assist with movement, alignment etc) - excellent work on her part.

Good for you as doing something you enjoy is great.

I trained with Swami Sarasvati some years ago now, and  taught on and off but not for a couple of years. Just yoga for me these days and occasionaly a demo. I can still do the splits and stand on my head etc. Have to keep it up as the saying goes "use it or lose it" :)

My daughter is a  University trained  Yoga Teacher and  teaches along with teaching school. So yoga is part of our family's lives.

Nice to see you posting. Yoga sport graphics

Take care

Phyl.

Evening all,  great to see so many post and hope many more keep coming.   Had a psychosomatic body work -  excellent and made me realise how stiff I am.  Anyway else had one of these?  It is similar to massage.

Also yoga is very good for men - I wonder if we will many comments from the them.

Cherri :)

Most of the men are not as dedicated as us ladies

Of course there are exceptions like our seth

Yes come on all men - join us in yoga and other therapy sessions.  Good for the heart and body

I have got to learn how to add diagrams like above, they are great.  Keeps one smiling.

Go to the forum and click Ctrl and V

And your pix is there

The size of the image should fit inside the screen you are typing in.

Evening all, part of my lesson today also involved Ayurveda, very interesting and sound knowledge about eating habits.  Anyone else know about Ayurveda?  It is also linked to yoga

Where have you been for the past four years CEB.

Pete:)

It is Cherri

Cherri would be interested to hear from you whether you have arthritis and if that is taken into consideration as to the exercises you can perform to your own Level of capability?

Nice to se some one different posting on here hope to see more of you :)

Oh I must be confused just that Viv posted the above saying it was nice to see someone different posting and yet CEB has been a member since 2010 so I was wondering where she had been .

Pete :)

You can be a member without doing a post - I was a member for quite a while before I posted at the Meeting place. You can post for some time ,then stop and post again som time later.

You just read/delete the weekly emails. but very important info does come through.

Just a bit odd that if Cheri has been a member for four years her first post is an add .But maybe she has been here all the time and Viv and I missed her .

Morning Pete,   Been around and travelled overseas for quite awhile.  Now back in 'hot' Brisbane,

Anyone interested in joining me for yoga classes in Hamilton let me know.

Yoga Nidra (or yogic sleep) deep state of relaxation for body and mind while still in full consciousness  - learning about this also.  Amazingly good for one's health.  Finding that inner peace.

Actually Pete  - I had breast cancer several years ago and been through the treatment.  So now you know.  Happy?

Sorry to hear that CB. How long ago was it ? Does one ever fully recover from breast cancer ?

I don't follow your remark "So now you know" or " Happy?"

Cherri Glad you have come out of it so well my previous message of welcome was just that, nothing ulterior implied.

Pete as I have asked you before,  please do not use my name to self justify because, unlike you, I do not have an obsession with checking out everyone's joining date.

i take people at face value and am sure Cherri is just sharing what has helped her and is kindly sharing it.

I see no difference in your questioning and casting doubts on newcomer Johns credentials, or my wondering where Cheri had been for four years . Both came o to the site with advertorials IMO.

Big difference Pete IMO, 3 of us started questioning John when it became obvious he was offering something for "free" in return for people's private information. Cherri is just sharing what has helped her.

Nevertheless it does not excuse your need to question everyone's joining date.

Re changing your "Nickname" go to edit in your profile do it there but you still carry all previous comments with you, not the same as using Pseudos.

I see you have changed your name from CBBuffett to CB how does one do that and still keep your original date of joining ?

Under  My Profile - edit your detail you can change your avatar and nickname

Does not affect your joining date.
