It just reinforces my opinion I've always had of Clint Eastwood, he's still a twit.

How very true :)

are these some of your past loves geoff?     pretty,

Don't think Geoff is that old Cats! Trying to figure out whether that fashion style belongs to the '30's or '40's. Anyone know?

Robi that fashion was in style in the.....damn i've forgotten.

...not 100% sure - but my guess would be 1940's ........ :-)

Mine too 1940s, they are all carrying cases, a sailor to one side with a tent there and a river behind aPort? Could they be "War Brides" either departing or arriving ?

Good spotting detective Viv. That thing behind the large building on the right could be an ocean liner.

What I love about the above picture is the feeling of vitality, good health and what lovely figures on all four ladies.

And I do class them as "ladies".  Be hard pressed to take a photo today that would look as good.

They all wore bone corsets in those days Radish to pull their waists in. Very uncomfortable!

Seggie.  Ah, I remember the days (40-50's) of wearing what were called 'roll ons'. Most uncomfortable and I decided to throw them out.   What ridiculous garments. Nowadays, I guess we like to be unhindered and forget the diets. The hippie days of long cotton dresses were the best.

So with you there seggie. Loved my hippie dresses.

Seggie. Hi Robiconda. Whisper this but just to you. I still have some of those Indian cotton dresses. Wow. Old Seggie was a hippie? Well, yes and no but loved flowers in the hair. Didn't care if people stared. (And still do)!! Great days. Most I knew loved peace and music. Oh for that feeling again. Oh well, it's still in the head.

I envy you seggie, wish I had kept my Indian cotton dresses. I am still a hippy at heart.

I still have some of the caftans I wore seggie..I love feeling free even today. Had to wear suits for work, but when I retired.. I retired them also!!

Yes seggie, we called ours corsets, just going out of fashion and the new ones coming in we called step-ins.  So much more comfortable than having bones in.

Like you Fleur, had to dress for work, until they put down new floor tiles in the office and stilettos marked the floor.  So management said flat shoes.

We used to wear stilettos to the front door and walk barefooted into the powder room to get our flats.

Boss was really upset when we decided to purchase uniforms to go with the flat shoes but they really didn't look good with dressy clothes and stockings.

Remember the old suspender belts for stockings.  It was heaven when pantyhose came into being.

Cats

Before my time if the forties as I was born in 51 .

Geoff :)

Is that cutie you ???

Yes abby . Funny enough I bought flares in my teens and seems was dressed similar as a toddler .

Seggie yet again.  One reason I loved the long Indian dresses were, they were soft cotton. Easy to wash by hand as usually the dyes ran. If you were caught in the rain and the dress had red and blue, so you ended up with red and blue legs.  What a laugh. Another reason for this email. As I love natural fibres, what on earth is happening to our wool? I know some goes to Italy to be spun into mens suiting fabric and probably some goes to China but if you are lucky enough to find a woollen sweater, it's maybe half wool and half synthetic. I loathe synthetics. Where does the majority of the Australian wool go?  I see where you can buy online, English woollen garments but by the time you pay postage and once bitten, I found their sizing is not quite right. In the old days, garments had a movement allowance, at least 3 inches which should still be cut into the pattern but I guess everyone cuts down. Guess who is prowling certain shops. Say no more.

Seggie, You have to be really careful buying clothes from overseas.  Their sizes are not the same as ours especially any made in China. Americans also have different sizing to ours.

Maybe the best thing would be contacting the Spinning and weaving Guild as they have people who not only spin the wool but make and sell cardigans, jumpers etc.  They are expensive though if you buy the hand spun things but someone may be prepared to knit one in the wool you select from a shop so it wouldn't be as expensive.

The hand spun wool ones are lovely tho.
