Demise of the Left Wing

In recent times, the people of most developed countries have rejected left wing politics.

Bottom line is left wing politiics only works when times are good and the people have the luxury of allowing squandering of wealth on loonie Agendas

Fewer and fewer European countries are run by left-leaning governments

TEN years ago almost half of the 27 countries that now make up the European Union, including Germany, Britain and Italy, were ruled by left-wing governments. Today, following the defeat of the ruling Socialists in Portugal's general election on June 5th, the left is in charge of just five: Spain, Greece, Austria, Slovenia and Cyprus. In Spain, by far the largest of these, polls suggest the Socialists will be removed from office at an election that must be held by next March. There are many theories for the left's weakness in Europe. One is simply that left-wing parties struggle when times are hard. Our chart shows the number of left-wing governments in the EU-27 countries over the past couple of decades against the annual GDP growth rate in the region. The growth figure is shown with a two-year lag, the hypothesis being that economic changes take time to have political effects. So the five left-wing governments this year are shown against the growth (or, in this case, contraction) figures for 2009.

"Adolf Hitler was an advocate of capitalism. On his route to power, he courted rich industrialists, who saw the theat of a militant communist movement in post 1st world war Germany as a threat to their position, and so backed the fascist and and anti trade union movement created by Hitler."

Pity the 2 dunces keep up the fertiliser

Tried to tell them also that, historians have agreed that Hitler was extreme far right. None so blind as those who will not see...none so deaf as those who will not hear etc.etc.etc.

I think Soloman and Pete should be called SOPE, an abbreviated combination of their names as they appear to work as a tag team of sorts, especially in the wee small hours.

Just for information Sope is also a Mexican dish, best left alone I feel, like much food of the area I imagine it would be quite capable of giving one a severe dose of Moctezumas Revenge, the local version of diarrhoea.

I only mention this as one needs to be careful as to which SOPE is which. The choice is yours, a benign constructive conversation with convivial company or a blistering attack on ones nether regions.

Beautiful morning here. Though BOM states there will be doom and gloom later in the day.

Take it easy and enjoy your weekend.

Love it..love it..SOPE it shall be!!

You surprise me Shaggy I thought you more intelligent.

I find this whole saga confusing by what I read, keep switching my politics by what I agree with, now I'm giddy, it's all too much. Hail ignorance!

Seth there are two conversations going on . One is that Solly and me are the same person .

The other is about the failure of Socialism.

Given that the political spectrum stretches from on the far right ,libertarism . Small govt and maximum freedom for the individual . And far left State Capitilism govt controls and ownership..

in the middle you have the Australlian Libreals and Labor with labor most times but not always just left of centre and liberals most times but not always just right of centre.

Morning Pete.

No offense intended.

No I am none too bright. I do the best I can with what I was born with.

I admire, envy maybe, those that have a brilliant mind. Met a few along the way but sadly I am not one of them. Somewhere between ordinary and average is where I be.

We are ready for off with the van but the weather isn't in our favour so early next week it shall be. Looks like a working weekend instead.

Take it easy.

Your previous response had me surprised - did not think you of all people would get into personal abuse. I thought that was reserved for people who come onto the Forum to fight with others and cause havoc.

After all you are not travelling under your real name either.

Hey Shaggs, I must say you've become unduly and unjustly self effacing, you're brilliant mate!.

But, I do disagree with the notion that consumers of sope (not SOPE) are being punished by Montezuma. My simple theory is that this is merely the result of Angloid chilli intolerance. Easily overcome by gradually increased chilli ingestion, leading to habituation and thus opening the gates to a serious sensory corner of culinary Eden.

On the other hand, inolerance to SOPE is much more difficult to conquer, if at all possible. Effects are universal rather than Angloid specific. Ongoing exposure does in no way permit habituation, it may exacerbate effects. It is dose related, but unfortunately high atmosheric levels of exposure are frequent. Symptoms include discombobulation, conniption, and may leave you maendic (women) or fomentatious (men).

Gimme sope with extra chilli any day.

You've got to be kidding Shaggy..I can't remember which thread it was but I asked you a question..will do so again in case you missed it. Are you going to write a blog of your imminent travels..love your writing and would look forward to reading it. Cheers.

Shaggy so what's the score .. Abby and I have both apologised if we got you wrong . If we didn't and you are having a go at Solly and I are one apology withdrawn..

 Abby,

Abuse is not my scene.

Obviously my humour is misunderstood.

I shall, in future, reserve such for other places where a tongue in cheek is recognised but continue with my normally bland responses for whenever I post on this forum.

I shall go stand in the corner and consider the error of my ways.

Take care .

Shaggy please continue with your humour it was just that your joining of my and Sols names incited those that were accusing us of being the same person .

Apologeeees if I misunderstood..,

If it was in  humour I must apoligize -

guess I am frustrated by the fact everytime I open the Forum there is nothing but war going on.

Yes text is easily misunderstood

Perhaps it may be time I took a break.

GD What time do you open the forum?

I miss the adrenalin rush of a good war.

Shaggy,

Beware of the naughty corner because that's Abby's hangout. Love your comments so don't change anything.

Fleur,

No, not a blogger, is that what they are called ?

Sounds like something exiting ones nostril at a great velocity.

Our travels will be local and of short duration. We have spent some time ambling about Oz in the past. Too many people out there these days. I like the quiet of the bush. We both do.

Take it easy.
