Terrorist Supporters to Lose Dole

I posted this under another thread, but its been hijacked by the leftist loonies.

Lets try again shall we - WOuld you support such a move. Simple Yes or No would suffice.

Me - I vote YES YES YES

Australian terrorism supporters will have their unemployment benefits and other welfare payments cut off.

In a significant crackdown on homegrown extremists, Prime Minister Tony Abbott says new legislation would allow the Department of Human Services to cancel benefits to those assessed as a serious threat to national security.

"These new measures will ensure Australian taxpayers are not financing people known to be members of, or working with, terrorist organisations," he said in a statement on Saturday.

Mr Abbott said under current arrangements, welfare payments can only be suspended or cancelled for those who don't meet social security eligibility rules.

That includes failing to fulfil participation, residence or portability qualifications.

The government has already cut benefits to those abroad, but not extremists in Australia who continue to meet eligibility requirements.

Mr Abbott said he was committed to ensuring Australians engaged in terrorist activities were not receiving taxpayer-funded welfare payments.

He said legislation would be introduced to ensure benefits can be promptly stopped for people identified by national security agencies as involved in extremist conduct.

"The new legislation will enable the Department of Human Services to cancel a person's welfare payment if it receives advice that a person has been assessed as a serious threat to Australia's national security," he said in the statement.

Advice will be provided by the Attorney-General, Minister for Foreign Affairs or Minister for Immigration and Border Protection.

"Ministers will exercise discretion and take into account all relevant factors including advice from national security agencies, before requesting cancellation of welfare payments," he said.

Mr Abbott said the government would also ensure relevant agencies worked more closely together to share information on issues of national security where that relates to cancelling welfare to those regarded as posing a threat.

"Australians travelling to Syria, Iraq, and other conflict zones to engage in, or support, terrorist activities are committing criminal offences," he said.

Mr Abbott said Australia's welfare system already allowed payments to be suspended or cancelled for those who don't meet their obligations.

"This measure is based on the same principle. It is designed to make sure taxpayers' money is not being used to undermine Australia's national security," he said.

Yes and I do not want my hard earned taxes to go to these terrorists.

If the Libs do not get off the back of the pensioners....... stop tinkering with superannuation...... they will lose votes  ..BIG time.....

YES

As far as I know when a person, who is receiving a centrelink welfare benefit ( age pensioners excepted) the benefit is automatically cancelled after a defined period of being outside of Australia.  Usually 4-6 weeks.  Are you saying potential "terrorists" are  exempt from these rules?

No they either carry out their activities here, or their families relieve benefits while they overseas or they are just plain rotting the system

Nice to see clear definitive responses.

Bottom line is what Abbot is saying makes absolute sense.

Time to put a stop to these traitors rotting out system

Ok I now understand. Yes apart from those i mentioned in my previous post, welafre payments to suspected terrorists living here should also be stopped.  Unfortunately as with everything else Mr Abbott' is trying to do for the good of this Country, Labor/Greens , the HR brigade, some lawyers, the high court will not allow it to happen.  They want the madness to go on and put Australia and its people at greater risks of terrorists attacks from within.

Absolutely.

I just don't get labor/greens

they are out to destroy this country

Like others with memories of things like the 'Kids Overboard Election' and the charging and later release of Dr. Muhammed Haneef, registrar at a Gold Coast Hospital, and  the ongoing beat up of 'Anti-muslim feeling' and 'Islamophobia' of recent times by Oz shock jocks e.g. Pickering, Jones, Bolt et. a, still very fresh in my mind... I too was hesitant to answer 'YES' long and loud to this question....but in the main would probably agree with the unemployment benefits of terrorist supporters being terminated...

......But sadly have a sneaking and  awful suspicion that any person of middle eastern appearance who may have a genuine claim to dole eligibility whilst searching for work, may now be suspected of being 'Terrorist Tourists' a term coined by TA I believe - but am open to being corrected - or judged in the same light as the sick depraved Khaled Sharrouf who posted that hideous photo of his young son holding a severed head - but who I believe had been suffering from serious mental illness for years.  (And have no way of knowing with any certainty but believe in some quarters there is still doubts about the authenticity of the photo  - and in the murky world of politics and propaganda believe just about anything is possible - see reference below.)

However having said that and given the lack of integrity exhibited by some of our political leaders, e.g. 'Kids Overboard Election'   and the almost universal distrust and cynicism surrounding any claims made by them felt by the average person in the street, makes you suspect   that we are being manipulated  and positioned to once again respond in a way that best suits their political agenda....

A definite yes to your question.

How's the stupid Aussie government responce to Oz muslims going over to the middle east to fight.

We are stopping them from going they say........I say let the traiters go....hope they are killed and don't let them back in here.

Makes more sence ....YES

I saw that stupid, stupid Milne woman on TV last night.  Is she an Australian??

I do not beleive she is in the true sense.  How could she ever be trusted? Some may even go as far to call her a "traitor".  She would rather defend the rights of these "terrorsits" than Australians.  God help this Country, with the likes of Milne around,  when the inevitable happens here on our soil.

REMEMBER when the Green Senator was keen to discuss government licencing of the media?

Freedom of speech everywhere! Christine Milne tweets, Wednesday:

I’M about to speak in the Senate for Peter Greste & for press freedom around the world.

Freedom of speech in Oz! Milne, Senate, Wednesday:

WE have to stand up for journalists wherever they work around the world ... Australia is a country that values and appreciates the importance of the free press and the need to protect the freedoms of journalists.

Except when you don’t like the media or the message? Milne, July 25, 2011:

THE Murdoch press has been running a very strong campaign against action on climate change. The bias is extreme, in The Australian in particular. You’ll see column inch after column inch of every climate sceptic in the country ... You’ll find day after day a real attempt at regime change … And one of the useful things about the hacking scandal in the UK is that it will lead to an inquiry into the media in Australia. We are at least going to see some real discussion ... around issues such as the level of ownership and dominance of the Murdoch press in several capital cities in Australia. We’ll also have a look at a range of other issues, including who are fit and proper people, into whether we need that test into people to be running media outlets. It’s time we had a good inquiry and certainly bias is certainly going to be one of the things that’s certainly to be looked at.
