Oscar Pistorius

If anyone is interested this gives a good insight into the man from the perspective of his ex girlfriend before Reeva, who firmly believes what happened to Riva could have happened to her.  This lady is going to be on ACA during the week I understand.

MONDAY 7PM -  A CURRENT AFFAIR - with Tracy   :-)

That's an interesting article Radish, thanks. I'm so surprised the judge believed his version of events. How could she, considering all the evidence? He is a domestic violence perpetrator and killer who has got away with taking no responsibility and showing no real remorse. All covered up and glossed over by a lie. I bet he doesn't get a very stiff sentence.

Robi having spent some time in S. Africa  there is such an element of fear there that it would be very difficult for the Judge to totally dismiss his story of fearing an intruder and shooting so it could not be totally dismissed as a complete fabrication. Many many normal S Aficans carry guns and always have a gun on them or in their cars with them because of fears of car-jacking, and would use them if they felt threatened.

When there My very peaceful brother-in-laws who live there shocked us enormously when getting into their car they calmly said their gun was in a bag if anything happened and they had another which was in ankle holder, just a normal way of life in what is actually a very violent society.

In S Africa probably if Pistorius and his girlfriend had not been such high-profile people his explanation would have been accepted.

Not trying to excuse him but the whole culture and fear is totally alien to us and difficult to understand. My sister-in-laws father had been shot  and killed the month before by an intruder.

This trial has been a spectacle and a circus televised over the world - this is not a normal case of South Africa and has had a great amount of money spent by the Prosecution in attempt to win the case.

As Viv says the South African culture is very different to ours and it quite common for people to carry guns and keep guns for protection against intruders as people fear for their lives. This would have been particularly so for a disabled person who has not had feet since the age of five.

Owing to the high profile of the individuals concerned, some witnesses have not come forward. Hence I feel we can only trust the decission of the Judge who is aware of the situation there.
