NSW - Use of Medicinal Cannabis acceptable in Terminal illness

Breaking news: the NSW Government has today approved changes to allow medicinal cannabis use for the terminally ill, protecting people like Dan from prosecution.
It comes after more than 195,000 people signed Lucy Haslam’s change.org petition - the fourth largest ever Australian petition. She writes:
“I got the call last night. I jumped on a plane to Sydney and will meet with Premier Baird later today. The changes will decriminalise possessing medicinal cannabis for those with a medical certificate of exemption – with moves underway to address supply by the end of the year.
It's an amazing win, with more progress to come.”

Hope NSW is the flag bearer for the other States to agree to its use in terminal conditions.

We are very fortunate to have a young progressive

Premier like Mike Baird.

Seggie. So very very glad. Anything to aid parents. It isn't a 9 to 5 thing, it's every day, every hour. All the best.

Good on the NSW Premier.

Don't see why there should be a problem.   In one doco about this issue, it was said that the addictive component is not in the oil.

Anyway it's good news, and I do hope others follow suit.

For a terminally ill person anything to ease pain and make life more bearable is welcome.

It does not matter if medication is addictive for a terminally ill person, as long as it does the job.

Not sure about what is or what is not happening but it seems progress at least on the political mindset. Trials and the rest are good signs but are not the end of the campaign for the ill.

" In NSW, the state cabinet is considering a private members bill to legalise small amounts of cannabis for the terminally ill.

While the ACT, Tasmania and the Northern Territory are also considering the possibility of medical trials. "

Great but why is it banned at all ...

For anyone suffering a terminal illness this is certainly a great win. Apparently, there are many healing properties within the cannabis plant.. it has been used for medicinal purposes since Egyptian times also by the Hebrews, Chinese and other civilisations and scientists say that they have only scratched the surface in unlocking its health secrets. I read somewhere that even Queen Victoria was given cannabis by the court physician when she was very ill! Interesting to note that the humble lettuce especially iceberg contains some kind of opiate but much is not known about it at the moment.

anybody hear any updates on this ?

The news from today’s Pew Research Center poll is astounding, perhaps even for the most staunch marijuana advocates:

75 percent of Americans think that the sale and use of marijuana will inevitably be legal across the U.S.

What counterculture?

Says Pew: “By wide margins, the public views marijuana as less harmful than alcohol, both to personal health and to society more generally. Moreover, just as most Americans prefer a less punitive approach to the use of drugs such as heroin and cocaine, an even larger majority (76% of the public) – including 69% of Republicans and 79% of Democrats – think that people convicted of possessing small amounts of marijuana should not have to serve time in jail.”

I read somewhere yesterday that one woman is willing to go to jail in order to enable the use of cannabis oil for her very ill child.  Anyone has any news on this?
