High cost of smoking

Standing at the customer service counter awaiting service and the young woman in front of me purchased a pack of 30 cigarettes.

I was astounded when the cost rang up on the cash register...$33.17.

I doubt that was  the only packet she would buy in a week but even it if was that works out at $1724.84 a year!

Is it no wonder people say they cannot save!

How on earth do pensioners afford to smoke??

The senator who defended the rights of smokers and said they were being disproportionately slugged through tobacco taxes has confirmed his party accepted donations from tobacco giant Phillip Morris.
Liberal Democrat senator David Leyonhjelm confirmed the donation to Fairfax Media and said while he could not recall the exact amount given to his party by the tobacco company, it was in the "tens of thousands".
And in a provocative comment, said the donations had influenced his stance on plain packaging.

That senator is a fool

I agree with DL .

Cigarettes  are too dear , so is beer and petrol. We are giving too much tax to governments to piss up the wall . We should retain all our wages to decide how to spend ourselves,

I have been informed that a pack of 30 Deal fags cost 18 dollars. Why someone would pay near double that for what is basically the same product I have no idea. Not sure on my memory but seem to recall about 18% or whatever are smokers now. I remember people saying it would be the death knell for pubs, clubs and cafes but instead it made eating out more enjoyable.

Not for smokers..

I believe this is the only country in the world where water costs more than petrol

Bottled water

What fruit loop would buy bottled water . But I guess people are allowed to spend their own money .
