Mens sheds

Hubby has been asked to go along on Monday to a mens' shed.

He has no idea what it is about.  I gather it is just a meeting place for guys to go and sit around and talk about all sorts of thing.

Do any of you gentlemen on here go along to one?   Would be interested to know.

I remember Julia Gillard's partner Tim Mathieson was promoting them.

They are absolutely great Radish :)

It wiil keep him out of your hair for a few hours Lol

Couldn't agree more suze keeps the old grey matter ticking over and the exercise can certainly improve those "abs"

I think they are a great idea --they do all sorts of interesting things --ie wood work etc a great interest for Men

Some of my friends go to a men's shed and really enjoy the experience.

"The modern Men’s Shed is an updated version of the shed in the backyard that has long been a part of Australian culture. Men’s Sheds are springing up all around Australia. If you looked inside one you might see a number of men restoring furniture, perhaps restoring bicycles for a local school, maybe making Mynah bird traps or fixing lawn mowers or making a kids cubby house for Camp Quality to raffle. You might also see a few young men working with the older men learning new skills and maybe also learning something about life from the men they work with. You will see tea-bags, coffee cups and a comfortable area where men can sit and talk. You will probably also see an area where men can learn to cook for themselves or they can learn how to contact their families by computer."

My late husband was a member of a men's shed ... his most important and most enjoyable "meeting" for the week.

It really made his retirement ...

They made lots of toys for disadvanteged children, as well as doing repairs to council bibs 'n' bobs, such as library shelves, etc.

Thanks for that info.  Hubby is a jack of all trades and I am sure he would like it.  He has his own "shed" but I think the male company will be great AND...hey Suze..I already have my morning planned ;).

Just got to give him his "cut lunch" and wave him off at 9 a.m. and I will be out of the garage into the car and off like a cut snake.... for retail therapy!!

..get some Mrs. Mills Cookies - lol lol (teasing)   :-)

My neighbour's husband goes to one three days a week and seems to enjoy it. It gives us the opportunity to go to craft classes - currently we are doing patchwork.

...did you ever look into those wonderful knitted chooks Abby?

Sandi sourced them and put them up on a thread somewhere ?

They were Strathewen knitted chooks

The pattern was about $13 with postage - just ordered it - of course if you were to knit one for me I would send you the pattern lol

Maybe Pete might like to knit me one - seems to have a lot of spare time on his hands :)

Thanks for reminding me :)

Wonder if they allow ladies inside thes man sheds ????

In the UK they have started the mens sheds too and they allow women in once a week or at least some of them do.

What were they thinking ???

Idiots

Most probably the place needs cleaning and they want a cooked lunch.

I'm sure the guys can manage a beer and bbq.

perhaps only ladies below a certian age are allowed in

Mis use of the word Ladies ...In my shed they were all Essex girls ..They only wore knckers to keep their ankles warm ...

Abbs no they had short skirts and white high heel shoes . I know Australia was behind but surely not that far ..,

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.

Why on earth would women want to go.   Gee whiz....it is time for us to do "our" own thing.  Let the men have the time on their own I think.

Might be the single ladies who do not know any better :)

Why shed when you could fly???

I think it was for women to get at the tools and facilities to do woodworking and stuff.

Yes they wanted to get their hands on the tool.

You are so perceptive

well solomon,  yours is obviosly always hanging around,   maybe your lucky day,

I think men's sheds are a great idea, gives men a chance to get away from the wives and they can have a good yarn about their fetishes and let it all hang out!

Seriously Radish, these sheds are a great idea and are very well received in  Denmark(where we've lived) Sweden and the Netherlands. Also quite popular in England, don't know if they have hem in America. Encourage your husband to go,I'm sure he'll enjoy it and sometime in the future I might also even attend one myself if it's not too far away from where we live.

WISH MY ONE WOULD FIND A MENS SHED, AND GET OUT OF MY HAIR FOR A FEW HOURS A DAY,
