YES solly,  one never knows where evil lurks,    ABBY,   why would the MUSLIMS get  iupset if he were shot,   he had 19,  i think,  people in there,  what if one of there own had been in the shop?    .  the point is, what was he doing walking around,   he had a list of charges and even his own had reported him to authorities,      the law here  needs a good look at itself,   he should have been in a cell to start with, not roaming around,   WHAT if it were one of your daughters, or sons in there,   bet your attitude would change,

It is a shame that when this extremist was in full view of the window a sniper was not used to take him out.

To go looking for a peaceful conclusion is ridiculous, this person was going to kill his hostages no matter what, so why wait.

When he was first charged with a criminal offence, his citizenship should have been revoked, all assets siezed, he together with any family (whose citizenship has also been revoked) should be sent back to the country of origin.

Australia does not need these refugees here.

Such a tragic situation and outcome.

Until we know the details, one surmises, perhaps wrongly, that the outcome was due to in part to police decisions ... or indeed, from higher up.

There are a lot of questions, but whether the public will be informed, is an entirely different issue.

The police should be well trained for hostage situations, whether they be domestic, familial or by an extremist, indeed, any type at all. Hostage situations surely have common elements, even if driven by different reasons ... the perpetrators commonly are unhinged.

We know that a number of hostages had phones.  This raises more questions.

I suppose we should be grateful that more people weren't injured or killed.

Let's hope this doesn't result in revenge attacks against Muslims, or copy cat attempts.

The facts get even stranger. An Iranian refugee accepted by Australia almost 20 years ago, Mons Manis was wanted in Iran on fraud charges. Iran warned the Australian Govt several times about his mental state and asked for his extradition to Iran to face a fraud charge, which was refused by Australia. He was out on bail despite a history of criminal behaviour, this year he was up for separate charges of multiple counts of sexual assault and accessory to murder of his ex-wife who lived in fear of him. His facebook page contained anti-western remarks and threatening type remarks. An Australian Iranian sheik asked for the Federal govt to investigate him a few years ago, saying he was a fake sheik and he was unknown in their community. Perhaps this was after he wrote threatening hate letters to the families of dead servicemen who had died in Afghanistan. It seems lately he had repudiated his Iranian Shia religion for extremist Sunni Islam. Sunnis regard Shias as heretics. This man was seriously loony tunes and dangerous.

Pretty unimpressed with Rupert Murdoch's tweet re:  The Sydney Siege

"Aust. gets wake call with Sydney Terror.  Only Daily Telegraph caught the bloody outcome at 2 AM.  Congrats.  (Ref:  Twitter: 16.12.14 - 6.19 am).

16 hours of sheer terror for many people i.e. hostages and their families and the deaths of 2 innocent people, and the bloke shares THIS insensitive tweet with the world?  Unbelievable!

But proof yet again of his LOMBARD status (Lots of money but a real dickh..d!)

Worth a read if you're interested:

'Rupert Murdoch criticised for 'gloating' about his Sydney siege coverage' - The Guardian....

I saw that shetso.  But what else could you expect ?

The man is a fascist creep who controls our much unloved PM, Sir Big Ears.

See nothing wrong with what he said

What EXACTLY were the words that you lefties object to.

Anyway, Sir RooPoo is wrong. I happened to accidentally catch the tv feed from channel 9 when it all suddenly erupted, and I have noticed how the newspapers and other newsfeeds online have been getting details wrong. They are obviously writing up their report from a stock video. RooPoo is a liar and a menace to decent journalism.

You are so blinded by hatred that you are unable to think logically and objectively.

Appears to be a common affliction of the left leaners

The media are making this tragedy a real money spinner. Even now, several days later, you cant tune in to any channel without constant re-hashes, interviews, opinions, so-called experts etc., etc. It seems to be their way with any major news story - they just play it to death. All this coverage only serves to inspire other lonely loser types who are hungry for their "fifteen minutes of fame". A great expression that - it used to be fifteen minutes, now it drags on for days, weeks or even months.

Agree with you Kfc

Just look what the media frenzy did with Hughes.

You are so right about it all being a media frenzy, they turned a tragedy of small proportion to what happens elsewhere, into a end of the world saga.

You feel for the families of those involved and the mental anguish they would have suffered, and will suffer.

The news this morning in Pakistan, where the taliban attacked a school and killed 132 children as well as teachers must put it in perspective.

I only hope the Islamic people here can realise that these murderers only incite anti islamic reaction, when I surmise most just want to be left in peace.

I agree Seth - these murderous nutjobs WANT us to vilify Muslims and alienate them so that more will go over to the extremist ideals. The taliban in Pakistan should be hunted down and destroyed like the rabid dogs they are - no trial, no "due process" and certainly NO MERCY. They are a disease on humanity and should be excised like a cancer before they can do more harm.

On this we agree.

Same deal with ISIS

Sydneysiders paying their respects to siege victims at Martin Place have shouted down a group of anti-Islamic protesters who appeared at the memorial on Friday afternoon.

Four men waving Australian and Southern Cross flags shouted slogans including "Islam is evil" and "not all cultures are equal - Islam is inferior".

Brainless twits.

Which group are you referring to?

If you need to ask then maybe I should include you as well.

geomac

There's only four of them - they are extremely visible - and exercising freedom of speech.  They are hardly dangerous, nor inciting hatred.  The incident is hardly news-worthy.

What is news-worthy is Mon Manis's facebook and the hatred of Aussies, etc flaring from his supporters.

What would be news-worthy, would be a similar doctinaire facebook inciting hatred for Muslims.

You do have issues don't you Geo.

I asked an innocent question and you, well you know ...

People are dropping off flowers and paying their respects to the victims of the seige. Four morons use the event to further their agenda. No respect for the people who were showing support and grief for the families affected. No respect for the occasion , the public and the families and you ask which group I am referring to ? No issues in my response just common sense would dictate which group I was referring to.

geomac,

This piece of news is so "non-news" it could be classed as a puff piece.

Some of those dropping off flowers and paying respects could well support the opinions of those holding signs.

I am posting these comments by MITZY on the News Forum "Sydney Siege".

I think it is important to know this.

The Muslim community are advising police of suspicious elements within their ranks.

Also,  the Head Mufti had asked to talk to this man, but police would not let him do so.

MITZY  (16 Dec. 2014, 1.32 pm)Channel 7 was speaking to a Muslim man, (a concerned citizen of a group of which I didn't see what it was) a short while ago and David Koch asked him if he knew of this terrorist. He indicated in the affirmative that his group had reported this terrorist and others to the police but they had advised him that we live in a democracy and there was insufficient proof to do anything about him.

David Koch asked him if he knew of others like him and he answered in the affirmative that he knew of at least ten more worse than this terrorist that his group had also reported to the police with the same response - the police are slow to act because of insufficient evidence.

MITZY  (17th Dec 2014   2:52pm) The ABC and Ch.7 both indicated yesterday that the Head Imam had offered his help to speak with Man Haron Monis but the police did not want him to be involved.
Today's SMH in an interview with Clive Small, former NSW Police Commissioner said:

"Shooting Man Haron Monis dead would have been too high-risk as police would not have known exactly where all the hostages were positioned and the gun-man may have had explosives."
It was also stated that negotiating is always the better way, the longer you negotiate the better the outcome. However, if something happens to change the scenario they have to take alternative action.

I note that the gunman's wife's bail ha been revoked and she has been taken into custody. The new Bail Laws have been applied.

Very sensible.

Australia had 254 in 2012 to 249 in 2013 murders comitted

Is there memorials being built all over the country ? How is the murder of these two individuals different to the other murders comitted in Australia - Is it just being policitized by media frenzy ?
