Knighthood for Prince Phillip

Prime Minister Abbot is coming in for some well deserved flack and criticism for recommending an Australian knighthood for Prince Phillip. I think many (or most) might see it as a sleazy exercise in royalist butt kissing and having no benefit to Australia or its people. It seems that it was Abbot's idea with no consultation or agreement even from within his own party. How much longer can this fool continue to "lead" this country?

A cynical person might think that Abbot was "sucking up" for a knighthood of his own when he is finally flung out by the Australian voters.

I don‘t want Abbott replaced, just because he is so awful. If they bring in someone with a better image, they might recover in the polls and I don‘t want that.

I wish he had been stupid enough to make Gina Reinhart a Dame. Or Prince Andrew a Sir. Prince Harry too, lol. Twiggy Forrester. James Packer! Arise, SirJames! The ultimate stupidity would have been Lachlan Murdoch.

LOL bookworm,  not too late for that to happen if this idiot stays in power.

After the 'Week that Was' fairly staggered to hear this reflection from the PM

"This is a very strong team", he said.  "And one of the reasons why so many members of the team are able to perform so well is because they've got  a very good captain".

"It takes a good captain to help all the players of the team to excel". (Ref: PM - 30.1.15)

But proof yet again of the rampant 'narcissism' and 'egomania' evident in this line of work.....

Am with you PlanB and from what I can glean many others - pretty much over the major parties and am looking with interest at independents i.e. Nick Xenophon...

Imagine the media uproar if Julia Gillard had said the same thing. They would have had her for breakfast.

Oh yes Nick seems OK and and on the ball Shetso.

One wonders why the hell Abbott always has a sporting  saying, maybe because he can't think beyond sport, he is so full of himself.

Had a conversation with a great friend last evening who described Abbott as a sycophant...one who is seeking out opportunities to please those in high places. Our friend is of the opinion that once you see Abbott as a sycophant...a lot of things that he does fall into perspective e.g. knighthood of the Prince!

Yes Robi' that seems to fit Abbott quite well and also quite a few of the others,  you often find Sociopaths in top positions, as the power attracts them

Nick Xenothon is one of the best.  I was very disappointed when he left SA State Politics to go Federal.

He's very down to earth and will fight tooth and nail for what he believes in and for the battlers.  He doesn't care who or what you are and treats everyone the same.

Hope he does get to form a party of independants with like minds.  Will certainly give the Libs and Labor  a big shock to their system.

Totally agree that the NXT would give Labor Libs and Greens run for their money.

So Turnbull and Bishop are "running scared" of beng nominated???  I did see Turnbull interviewed on the show "Kitchen Cabinet" on ABC last year - and he said then -  (and in no uncertain terms ) - that to be PM - would interfere with his life etc. too much - and I think you can understand that - I mean he has a pretty luxurious lifestyle - great pay - no real problems?  So why would he wanna change it and be PM???  Go figure? lol

I really think that MURDOCH has woven his EVIL whisperings to the Australian people in much the same way he did with GOUGH WHITLAM who, by the way, did MORE for Australia and the average Australian, than any other PM (before or after).

HOW can ANYONE put LABOR in the same DISGUSTING place as this current government.  Murdoch told you Labor was bad and you are STILL believing what this disgusting FOREIGN parasite is TELLING YOU!!!!

I am not a LABOR person BUT I acknowledge when a party does good things.

LABOR is NO WAY anything like LIBERAL.  In there LAST term of office, they did so many good things that were portrayed by MURDOCH as bad for us but in actual fact were ONLY bad for mega corporations (foreign).... such as carbon tax and tax on mining 'super' profits!!

LABOR were going to implement the best NBN in the WORLD (for only $40billion instead of an utter crap NBN for over $100billion) and provide such to EVERY Australian free and not just the RICH suburbs, who will apprently, get Labor's NBN!

LABOR gave us a DEFICIT that was a lot, lot, lot LOWER than that which is currently mishandled by the Liberals.

LABOR put Australia's ECONOMY at the very TOP of the WORLD in GFC times when other countries were collapsing..... we beat China, Russia, USA, UK, EU, etc!!!

LABOR gave Australia a Triple AAA credit rating for the FIRST time ever in Australia's HISTORY.

LABOR put Australia's currency in the INTERNATIONAL bag of currencies for the FIRST time ever in Australia's HISTORY.

Under LABOR Australia cruised through a big part of the GFC, virtually unaffected.

THE ONLY BAD THINGS LABOR DID WERE INVENTED BY our illustrious foreign leader Rupert Murdoch.  When he had nothing to deride Rudd with, he did a front page headline on a "fly in Rudd's hair" for chr*st sake.

Rupert Murdoch did the same thing to Gough Whitlam, as well!  Got everyone against a man that did more for Australia and the average Australian than any other PM.... why else would Rupert Murdoch, go after him at the behest of the USA government... FOREIGN POWERS interfereing in Australia's DEMOCRATIC processes for their OWN benefit.

Exactly the same thing they then did to RUDD!!!!!

No, as a non-labor party supporter, I give credit where credit is due, to a government that did GOOD...... no ..... actually they did GREAT things for Australians and Australia."

Labor also increased the pension, (an act which had been long neglected by Howard); introduced an NDIS; gave homosexual couples defacto relationship rights; aided reconciliation with the 'apology'; and tried to implement Gonsky recommendations to improve our schools and give all children more equal opportunity.

You are right Muss'and Robi

The election result in Queensland was a disaster for the Libs and Abbot must surely shoulder some of the blame. With all his mother blunders, poor decisions, unpopular policies and backflips, surely his days as PM are numbered? Australia deserves BETTER and I really think that change at the top is now imminent.
