TTPs

It's hard to believe this could happen in Australia, but there are already cases around the world of companies using what's known as Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) provisions to sue governments:
A foreign-owned energy company filed a $250 million lawsuit against the Canadian government, when Quebec placed a ban on dangerous fracking processes in a local river.
In El Salvador, a Canadian company is suing the government for $315 million in "loss of future profits" because local citizens won a hard-fought campaign against a gold mine that threatened to contaminate their water supplies.
An international utilities company sued the Argentinian Government for imposing a freeze on water and energy bills during the global financial crisis.
And in Canada, US pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly is suing the government for $500 million in compensation, because the courts revoked two of the company's patents citing lack of evidence around the drugs' supposed benefits.
Do we want to live in a country where foreign-owned companies have the right to sue our government for introducing laws to protect our farms, land, water and our health? International corporations should not be able to take the Australian Government to court. It flies in the face of democracy, and will leave taxpayers at risk of paying corporations enormous amounts in compensation.

Worryingly, Trade Minister Andrew Robb has already indicated he's willing to sign on to the deal, which is why we need to act quickly. Here in Australia, only one in ten voters have heard about the TPP.2 But if this deal goes ahead, it will be all of us who stand to lose – so it's time we spoke up. We need as many Australians as possible to hear about the dangers of the TPP. Can you watch and share the video, which explains why this deal will be so dangerous?

It’s amazing that the largest “would be” trade deal in history and involving nearly 40 per cent of the world economy is shrouded in such secrecy.  If Australia signs this secret agreement then we might as well hand the control of our country over to a few mega corporations. This agreement will not only enable these corporations to create rules that will allow them to do as they please but will have the power to sue everyone including governments to make more profits at the expense of everyone else.

To think that we have Tony Abbott at the helm at such a time, fills me with dread and I agree with you Geoff if Australians don’t wake up and take heed we will pay dearly. If this goes ahead, TPP will send hundreds of jobs off shore and the rate of unemployment will sky rocket. Another worrying thought is these mega corporations will encourage and have the power to privatise lands and natural resources in areas where Indigenous people live!

I have shared this on FB and with friends but most importantly signed the petition - we cannot just hand Australia over to Multi-Nationals and lose our rights.

With Brain Dead Abbott you never know what he will do, is he really pro Australia?  or England? he is either stupid or plainly ignores what is wanted by the voters, and slips from one fiasco to another.

Where is Pete? a staunch defender of Abbott, what does he think?

Obviously Pete can't defend 'his Tones' this time Seth or he would be here doing it.

I've signed the petition too. I do fear this incompetent government will lead us down this nightmare path.

Trade Agreements are simply Govts handing over their country to FOREIGN mega corporations.

Abbott doesn't have a problem because as seth said, he is more aligned with the England than Australia AND the fact that this moron is a sycophant who wants to play with the 'big boys'.

Effectively, these monstrous corporations are simply overriding sovereignties and the people of those sovereignties, to ensure that nations cannot stop their abject rampaging and destruction of that country, to acquire even MORE WEALTH.  Irrespective of the effect on that country's environment, economy or wellbeing/survival of the people.

Mega Corporations are beyond the law, whether it be local, national or international because their wealth is that ostentatiously massive and their annual income so huge that it is often more than many countries annual GDP, they can use this to outlast and outlegal most opposition OR simply that big that they ignore such laws.  Some of these evil monstrocities even exceed Australia's GDP.

These ARTIFICIAL structures are controlled totally by a handful of contemptuous and grossly greedy wealthy individuals who use the smokescreen of these artificial structures to reign terror on other countries and their people.

MOST wars and acts of violence can be traced back to these artificial structures with their despicable controllers hiding in the shadows of their evil creation.  They create disorder, ensure countries they control (USA) use their military to invade and murder and torture other nations and their people, in order to ensure they remain omnipotent and unbelievably wealthy.

Seriously, if the people of the world could just get rid of these 'cancer growths' we would have a much, much, much better and peaceful world with steps taken to deal with the wellbeing of the world....... ie. population, starvation, environment, education and innovation.

Sorry to get a bit over passionate but this subject (one of abuse of whole nations at the hands of these grissly subhuman beings who hide in the shadows of artificial structures and who reap ugliness and fatal destruction where ever they go and whatever they do), really, really gets to me.   It is possibly the closest I get to 'hate'.

geomac

thank you so much for bringing this subject to the fore.... it should be brought up as a separate topic at least once every month, so that people can understand the enormity of what these 'cancer growths' are raining down on Australians..... for the sole purpose of sucking up even more of our wealth, instilling even more corruption and controlling more and more govt elected reps and govt officials.
