Seggie.  As yet, no one has mentioned Aldi's 'Sweethaven' Mixed berries or 'Sweethaven' Blackberry pie. Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries are a no-no but I'm not willing to eat the Blackberry pie. Luckily Aldi's have a good return policy. Hopefully we may now get trueful labelling on our food items and not just the word 'imported'.

"While cooking can kill the virus, the food needs to be thoroughly heated to above 85 degrees Celsius.

"If you heat food for a minute or two at that temperature, you should kill hepatitis A. But if you heat it to a lower temperature than that, then it'll still survive," Associate Professor Senanayake said.

He does not recommend cooking the berries that have been recalled, as these should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase."

Contaminated berries have just been discovered in Ireland, Italy, Norway and some other country. Don't know if they're Patties.

You are turning me off the fresh berris as well - looks as if I will have to depend on the ones from my garden until all this is resolved - might have to put a cover over them to stop the freeloaders helping themselves - no more superfood berry shakes :(

They could well be the same source as it is winter and not too many fresh fruits would be available there.

Seggie. Thanks, Abby. Seems it's not just Australia that are having problems with berries. Of course we should have realised that many countries would source their berries from China. Must ask my English friends if they are aware of this problem. Thanks again, Abby.

It does not take much for the virus in feces to contaminate anything and it is in so many places...:(

Workers all go to the toilet so who knows how clean anything really is. I know they wear rubber gloves BUT do they take them off? I have heard "takes to much time" SO the mind boggles with many things we ingest. So many surfaces are touched, so many cleaning sponges etc. grubby and these can be used on equipment when things cleaned down.

I remember years ago of people with a blackberry farm who had many drunkies pick the berries, and we all know how many times they need to use the loo.

Saw on tv this morning that China want to buy "our" blueberries.

That tells you something doesn't it.   They dont want to eat their own produce by the looks of it.

Just been to Coles and they only have NZ fresh blueberries but in NZ they repackage from Chili and China so no blueberries for me and mine are nowhere near ready :(

FRESH IS BEST.

That's why I do my own.  Like Viv I make my own yoghurt and add what I want.

Freeze local produce and otherwise buy Coles frozen AUSTRALIAN vegetables if I need to.

In our house because fresh berries are much dearer we just eat less at each serve and I do buy and freeze them.

Easy on desserts because I add either apples, bananas, pineapples, rockmelon and mangoes etc with some berries on top.

Health authorities have confirmed four new cases of hepatitis A linked to frozen berries, bringing the number of people infected in the outbreak to 18.

Seven are in NSW, seven in Queensland, three in Victoria and one in Western Australia.

"THE first case of hepatitis A linked to contaminated frozen berries and posing a current public health risk has been confirmed in South Australia.

SA Health said a country woman, aged 54, had been admitted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.

She had eaten Nanna’s frozen mixed berries over the Christmas and New Year festive period.

The woman is the 20th person in Australia confirmed to have contracted hepatitis A from the now recalled frozen berries."

It seems like a long time to be ill since Christmas.

Can take up to 2 months to appear so the news said tonight.

How would you ever remeber if that is the particular frozen berries you took especially if they were reprocessed in ice cream  ???

I wrote to Weis asking if they used the said berries but as yet had no reply so in the meanwhile am sticking to Mango.

Abby some people may have only ever bought Nannas Berries or may keep shopping Dockets too, or only shop at one shop who only stock Nannas no big deal in identifying them really.
