GST Increase to 15 pc recommended by CPA

What do you think about the recommendation that they increase the GST ??

Not too sure if I woud like it but if they reduced other taxes and depending on what they took it off, it may be OK.

Abby and geomac ....they need to get off their butts and collect the tax that multi nationals are not paying, get rid of Negative Gearing and Salary Sacrifice and a lot of loopholes for the big end of town.

Also reduce a lot of the unnecessary aid to the world and process the boat people here in Australia instead of paying billions for other countries to do it.

Then slowly increase GST say 1% each year for a few years to 15% and quickly the budget would be returned to the black.

Is there a problem with the website ?

Precisely, Water Dragon....but what happens then?.....will the GST return to 10%

I'm fed up with the continual suggestion of raising the GST which was designed for the states. Wont fix the Federal budget at all. Unless they dont give the extra to the states which would cause havoc. So wouldnt happen.

No. i see this as a get ut of paying any real percentage of their incomes by the top end of the spectrum. Its dodging the issue which is they have not done a real closing of loop holes in the tax laws since the bottom of the harbour schemes back in 1970's when John Hward was treasurer. Some tweaks.

Late Kerry Packer paid a total of $10 a year on his declared income legally for 3 years and this was investigated by a Senate Committee.

The left made usual excuses for him, "He made jobs" being main one. Of course he made jobs and he would still have "made jobs" if he hadnt got the loop holes that allowed this. Man had it in his DNA to make it his business to be in business and make as much money as he could. And he did and his son follows on and has the same loop holes Dad did.

So does Hockey and he has said in his autobiography that he has no intention to close these off. Nor off-shore accounts and trusts and that is not good coming from The Treasurer. In fact he shuld have gone long ago, Abbott isnt doing his job and when asked why not shuffle he said Joe is his friend. I mean! The whole lot of em today have lost the plot imo. Not one party today in Canberra is any better than any of the others.

People forget that follow the money is always the way to go. Media never ask the 'talking heads' or 'experts' so they who pays them. That still applies. Follow the money trail. The other thing that is getting too much said today is

"We are a wealthy country" .We are not. Not when we have to borrow

$110,000,000.00 every single day just to pay our way as a nation.

Big Val taxes must go up.........there is no options.

Also multi nationals and the big end of town must put in their fair share and close off all loop holes. Carefully stop all business finding ways around paying fringe benifits taxes by purchasing utes and 4 x 4s and not declaring.

Also stop Salary sacrificing, Negative Gearing and so called business lunches and overseas trips to attend so called conferences.

There are many ways people are claiming false costs.
