Amazing how many landlords do not want anyone getting Centrelink benefits. Why not? Maybe something to do with concealing their income??

I pay $420 a fortnight rent for one person. So the government picks up $132 of it. How much were the giving me before $125? How should I celebrate, have an extra cappuchino per week or buy a tube of toothpaste.
    They didn't hear me I said I needed another $3000 a year

you can rent a 3 bedroom house in SE Queensland for $350 and get the maximum rental assistance as a couple. That means only $100 out of pocket for a couple on $35,000 pension

That leaves $30k ($575 per week) to spend on food utilities and the rest

Pretty good going in my opinion

    hahaha - naughty Roby

yes - if you "add back" all the concessions, this is equal to earning around $45 k a year

SO please dont tell me a couple cannot live on $40k a year ($770 per week) after rent paid

That is actually living very very comfortably off the taxpayer

The rental assistance for a couple is $124.60 per fortnight which is $62.30 per week. Take that off $350 per week rental and you have to pay $287.70 not $100

Raphael, whom I hope isn't a maths teacher, obviously has an axe to grind about people living off the taxpayer so hangs around this site looking for ways of trolling anything to do with people receiving Govt.support. Most of those people paid income tax all their working lives but never mind about that inconvenient truth. The irony is that Raphael is also dependent upon the taxpayer, unless of course he has never used a road, footpath, health service, emergency service and multiple other aspects of the country's infrastructure. Raphael and Roby speak of this nebulous 'they' as if they are a separate species. Wouldn't it be a hoot if Raph and Rob don't pay tax themselves!

Hmm $30000 a year for a couple that's only $15000 a year each, for those considering share accommodation to cut costs.

Object to comment "living off the taxpayer", when we have all paid taxes while working and continue paying on many goods/services. We have a right to assistance in consideration of that. Your situation as a couple renting is far better than singles renting, and rent assistance is just that.

More to do with the fact that a lot of times one person signs lease but more move in afterwards.I know as I have someone in family that have done that and to me it isn’t fair for those that really need assistance .
