These doomsayers are losing credibility with me. If Emma was a hobo sitting on a street corner, with an up turned hat, while holding that sign it would not make it onto this site.
I think actors like business leaders, namely Kerry Packer, may have too much public influence in such political matters.

The climate changes here a number of times a week- a couple frosty days, followed by a couple of contrasting warm ones.
Not so long ago we were being educated about global warming. We get that here every summer.
Perhaps we should write to Tony Abbott and congratulate his team on being realists.

"Left bias". What a stupid statement. You are claiming that 97% of the world's scientists, 35 leading Australian economists (including a former leader of the once sensible Liberal Party), NASA, leading Australians, etc disagree with your obvious unqualified opinion so the best you can do is say this publication has a "left bias". You and your ilk who are void of true scientific evidence display your ignorance and your bias by attacking an impartial publication. Alan Jones & his shock jock mates will be proud of you.

Weather is what happens over short periods of time.eg.day by day or week by week.
The climate of an area is what has happened over long periods of time.eg hundreds of years.Man can influence changes to the climate. How much this influence is,no one knows.

I think most of us would agree that climate changes do take place Val, but not simply over hundreds of years; try thousands and even millions - all part of the world's journey to it's final extinction - courtesy of the sun and the moon for the most part, and all their other influences. Man's effect on these parameters is hardly likely to create much of a stir, except in our own minds.

But as you correctly point out, no-one knows, but common sense will tell you that from what we do know, climate changes over millennium have not destroyed the world, only made it better.

She is currently in the Arctic with her daughter and Greenpeace. She is not targeting Australia, she is targeting the world to get behind their respective country's leaders. She has a belief, whether she is right or wrong, and if you read further as Debbie suggests she is there among 5 million others who believe in climate change and she is asking believers to add their names with hers.
I'm not qualified to judge, I don't have a scientific qualification, and therefore I couldn't in all honesty write to our current government and express an opinion on this subject.

I have a great deal of respect of Emma Thompson as an actress but it stops there. She has used her influence to be outspoken about anything and everything - that does not score a single point. It's like using Aussie celebs in political campaigns.....when it comes to your vote or climate change, celebs are just individuals with opinions nothing more. There is much more needed to prove global warming is taking Earth to a fiery end.

I think that the subject of climate change bears a distinct resemblance to religion. In the case of religion, you have the polar situations of piety and atheism and, of course, innumerable positions and participants in between.

No one has yet convinced me of the existence of an omnipotent power and, similarly, there is, as far as I can see, no conclusive, irrefutable proof of anthropogenic climate warming.

The time is fast approaching when my doubts about God will be laid to rest but I fear that the answer to the other matter is out of the reach of all of us who write here.

The facts are that the climate is changing and has been since the beginning of time. This is not the issue, and whether or not you believe in climate change is irrelevant.
What matters is whether or not human activity i.e. fossil-fuel burning, is adversely affecting climate change and we probably wont know for sure until it's too late.
Doing something about it now may lessen the impact later on.
What's wrong with cleaner air and water anyway. Don't tell me money is more important than that!

jaker, you make a solid argument.
I think the issue would have progressed without too much opposition until the Greenies claimed the moral high ground and moved it to the political low ground. They wheeled out many so called experts who made radical claims that just weren't logical. Meanwhile making some lefties very rich. All the time blaming car drivers for destroying the planet, while at the same time, displaying a meek empathy for head hunting Islamic terrorists.

My PhD is in a field of mathematics. I will submit my qualifications to the publication if you also submit your science qualifications to the publication since climate change is a scientific issue, not a political one. I fail to find any logic, intelligence or constructive input in your assessment of belittling those you disagree with as "lefties". It reflects on you rather than those you seek to criticise.

TJ; more name calling; sad. Fact - scientists know a lot more about science, including climate change, than politicians and unqualified opinion pushers. To infer that pollies know more about it than scientists is blatantly absurd and stupid. Again, your comment "beat up drummed up by our so called qualified scientific experts" assumes that you are so knowledgeable on this subject that you have the qualifications and research that allow you to judge these scientists. I strongly suspect that you don't have such, just your unqualified opinions. Most of what you have today is due to "so called qualified scientific experts". Based on your stated opinion which defies scientific proof, you would have also criticised Galileo when he said the earth was not the centre of the solar system and the "so called qualified scientific experts" when they first proved the earth was NOT flat.

Tealeaf; Ah yes, Kirk Myers, a 27-year veteran of the advertising and public relations professions, a qualified spin doctor but NOT a scientist. His “Exposure of global warming goes viral” was published on 1/1/12. You choose to believe a professional spin doctor over, for example, the president of the Royal Society who has spent a lot more than 30 years as a SCIENTIST , not a spin doctor. I’m awaiting Myer's views on the recent reports on the dramatic melting of the permafrost and the effect it will have on the environment. Based on his past reports, he will call the melting a conspiracy of the alarmists. You gave me a website that is blatantly biased. Here’s one that isn’t. It’s a site by science skeptics that reviews many papers on climate change; those for and those against. It’s dated 11/4/14.
The conclusion? The scientists are correct. “To contrast, human-caused global warming is based on solid fundamental physics that we've understood for over a century. In contrast to the relatively few studies mentioned here, thousands of studies have scrutinized and reaffirmed the basic physics that underlies the theory. It has withstood the test of time.” http://www.skepticalscience.com/abraham-2014-cosmopolis.html
