Ready to take control? ANZ launches new tool to boost your money skills

In today’s fast-paced, ever-changing world, it can sometimes feel like technology is running a marathon while the rest of us are still tying our shoelaces.

For many Australians, the shift to digital banking and online services can be daunting, confusing, and sometimes downright overwhelming. But what if there was a way to build your confidence, boost your skills, and take control of your finances in the digital age?

Enter ANZ’s MoneyMinded program, which has just launched a brand-new Digital Confidence module designed specifically to help people like us easily navigate the world of online banking and digital devices. And it couldn’t have come at a better time!

Since its inception in 2002, MoneyMinded has been a lifeline for more than one million people across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia-Pacific.

The program aims to empower adults with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to manage their money wisely.

With over 5,000 accredited MoneyMinded coaches working in communities, it’s no wonder that 9 out of 10 participants say they feel better equipped to handle financial challenges after completing a workshop.

What’s new?

The latest addition to the MoneyMinded family is the Digital Confidence module—a first-of-its-kind resource aimed at helping vulnerable and older Australians build their digital skills.

This module is about making technology less intimidating and more accessible so that you can confidently bank, budget, and browse online.

Janet Liu, ANZ’s head of social impact and community partnerships, summed it up perfectly: ‘We understand that digital banking can be intimidating and overwhelming for some of our customers, but it doesn’t have to be.’

‘Our aim with this module is to empower the community to use digital devices safely and to realise the opportunities that come with digital access.’

The Digital Confidence module starts right at the beginning—no prior tech knowledge required! Here’s what you can expect:

  • Getting started with devices: Learn the basics of using smartphones, tablets, and computers.
  • Staying safe online: Discover how to protect yourself from scams, create strong passwords, and keep your information secure.
  • Internet and phone banking: Step-by-step guidance on how to check your balance, pay bills, and transfer money online.
  • Practical tools: The module includes 15 new topics, six prompt cards, two engaging animations, and easy-to-follow handouts.
  • Support from the experts: The Smith Family, a trusted community partner, will train MoneyMinded coaches to deliver these resources to those who need them most.

Doug Taylor, chief executive officer of The Smith Family, highlighted the importance of this initiative: ‘Technological advancements can disproportionately affect those already facing financial challenges, and the Digital Confidence module will directly support those who need it most.’

Let’s face it: the world is moving online, whether we like it or not. From Medicare to MyGov, Centrelink to your local library, more and more essential services are going digital.

This can mean missing out on discounts, services, and even social connections for seniors if we don’t keep up.

But it’s not just about convenience—it’s about safety, too. With scams and cyber threats rising, knowing how to spot a dodgy email or protect your personal information is more important than ever.

The Digital Confidence module teaches you not just how to use technology but also how to use it wisely and safely.

MoneyMinded has always been about helping people make informed decisions and improve their financial well-being.

The new Digital Confidence module is a natural extension of this goal, giving you the tools to choose how, where, and when you bank—on your terms.

If you’re interested in building your digital skills, ask your local community centre, library, or seniors group if they offer MoneyMinded workshops. You can also visit the ANZ MoneyMinded website for more information and resources.

  1. Apart from the obvious about do not open mail U do not know or familiar with is how you manage your bank account – for example I have 2 accounts with Westpac savings and transactions, Westpac only allow deposits to my savings accounts and no withdraws I can only make payments or transfers or whatever I want is with my transaction account so I have all my money on my Savings and earn nice small interest and only transfer to transaction account what I need for the day or whatever I am doing and I do that using my phone or computer at home very quickly also my credit and debit cards are constantly looked so nobody can access so I do not live wit any fear of a hacker take my money – I only unlock them when I am ready to use them.
I know is a pain to do all that but at then end it isa lot better that lose your money toa hacker.

Check out Westpac or your bank to be able to lock your savings and use only a secondary account for transactions

    Good Luck
