Easter is a time of tradition, from the Easter egg hunts to the family gatherings, and of course, the much-loved hot cross buns. But hold onto your Easter bonnets, because Coles is once again redefining the hot cross bun experience with a nostalgic twist that’s sure to evoke childhood memories for many Australians.
After stirring the pot last year with some unconventional hot cross bun flavours, Coles has teamed up with Arnott’s for a second time, introducing a new treat that combines the comfort of the classic hot cross bun with the indulgent flavours of an iconic Aussie snack – the Wagon Wheel.
Starting from Monday, February 3, Coles shoppers can indulge in the new Wagon Wheels-inspired hot cross buns, a delightful concoction brimming with chocolate biscuit pieces, gooey marshmallows, and a swirl of jam. This innovative creation is a nod to the past, bringing together two beloved treats in a way that’s both familiar and exciting.
The collaboration between Coles and Arnott’s has previously seen the shelves stocked with Iced VoVo and Pizza Shapes-inspired hot cross buns, which were met with enthusiasm and ‘flew off shelves,’ according to Coles. However, not all experiments have been met with the same fervour. Last year’s savoury Vegemite and cheese and burger-flavoured buns didn’t quite hit the mark and have since been retired from the lineup.
But Coles is confident that this year’s Wagon Wheels-inspired hot cross buns will be a runaway success. ‘We know Aussies love hot cross buns and they love Arnott’s classics, so it made perfect sense to combine the two and give Wagon Wheels the highly anticipated Coles Easter treatment,’ said Brad Gorman, Coles General Manager of commercial, bakery, dairy, and frozen.
The development team at Coles has worked tirelessly to perfect this new offering, aiming to capture the essence of biting into a Wagon Wheel biscuit. ‘It’s the feel-good nostalgic taste of Australia, now in a hot cross bun, and we can’t wait for our customers to try it for themselves and make it a new family favourite,’ Gorman added.
These tasty Easter treats will be available in a four-pack for $5.50 each at Coles supermarkets, ensuring that everyone can get a taste of this innovative twist on a classic. And for those who are fans of previous collaborations or prefer the more traditional flavours, fear not. Coles will also be offering last year’s Iced VoVo and Vegemite and Cheese hot cross buns, alongside classics such as choc chip, apple and cinnamon, and traditional mini fruit hot cross buns.
The Wagon Wheels-inspired hot cross buns are a limited-time offering, available at Coles supermarkets and online from February 3 while stocks last. So, if you’re eager to take a trip down memory lane this Easter, be sure to hop into Coles and grab a pack before they’re all gone.
