If you’ve ever found yourself wandering the aisles of Woolworths, searching for something a little bit special to satisfy your sweet tooth, you’re in luck.
Woolworths has just launched a new treat that’s already causing a stir online—and it’s inspired by the viral Dubai chocolate trend that’s taken the world by storm.
Introducing the Dubai Chocolate Slice: a decadent, bite-sized dessert that’s as easy on the wallet as it is on the taste buds.
So, what’s all the fuss about? For just $12 a box (that’s $2 per slice), you get six individually portioned slices, each promising a fusion of rich chocolate, golden kataifi pastry, and silky pistachio cream.
If you’re not familiar with kataifi, it’s a traditional Middle Eastern pastry made from shredded filo dough, adding a delightful crunch and a touch of luxury to every bite.
And pistachio? Well, it’s the nut of the moment, lending a subtle, creamy flavour that’s become synonymous with Dubai’s most sought-after desserts.
Foodie and professional taste tester Nectro Vlangos (better known as Nectorious Papi) was among the first to try the new treat, and he’s given it a glowing review. ‘It’s basically a chocolate cake with the “Dubai style” pistachio cream and crunchy kataifi. So, think Dubai chocolate in cake form. It’s a nice little treat. Cake is soft. And the pistachio and kataifi taste nice without being overpowering,’ he said in an interview. High praise indeed, especially considering how picky we can all be about our chocolate!
Nectro even compared the cake base to Woolworths’ iconic chocolate mud cake—a cult favourite in its own right. ‘I think people will definitely want to try it and it’s great that the pieces are all cut up and ready to share,’ he said.
The only minor quibble? He would have liked a slightly stronger pistachio flavour. But for $2 a pop, it’s hard to complain.
The Dubai Chocolate Slice officially hits Woolworths shelves on Wednesday, 25 June, and if the online buzz is anything to go by, it won’t be long before they’re flying off the shelves.
Social media is already awash with excited shoppers counting down the days, with comments like ‘Dubai anything is [fire],’ ‘Yum… can’t wait to get my hands on it,’ and ‘Woolworths is really upping their game.’
One fan even joked, ‘Brother since I’ve started following your page I’ve packed on 8kgs and only buy limited edition items.’ (We feel you!)
Of course, not everyone is on board with the mud cake comparison—some say it’s a turn-off, while others admit it’s their guilty pleasure.
But that’s the beauty of these new supermarket treats: there’s something for everyone, and at this price, it’s easy to give it a go and decide for yourself.

Why the Dubai dessert craze?
You might be wondering: why Dubai, and why now? The answer lies in the global explosion of Middle Eastern-inspired desserts, particularly those featuring pistachio and kataifi.
Social media has played a huge role, with viral videos showcasing luxurious, pistachio-laden cakes and pastries from Dubai’s most famous bakeries.
Australians, always keen to try the latest food trends, have embraced the craze—and now, thanks to Woolworths, you don’t need a passport to get a taste.
How does it stack up against other Woolworths treats?
Woolworths has a knack for creating cult-favourite desserts, from their classic mud cake to limited-edition flavours that sell out in days.
The Dubai Chocolate Slice joins a growing list of must-try supermarket sweets, and its portion-controlled packaging makes it perfect for sharing (or not—we won’t judge). If you’re a fan of the mud cake, you’ll likely love this new twist.
If you’re after something a bit more exotic, the pistachio and kataifi layers might just win you over.
