Sometimes, a sweet craving hits when you least expect it. And often, it’s the classics that win us over—especially when they come with a modern twist.
That’s what makes this new dessert drop so irresistible for lovers of a little nostalgia.
The latest treat at Hungry Jack’s
Hungry Jack’s has unveiled its long-awaited Nutella Storm, and dessert lovers around Australia are taking notice.
Launched nationwide on 1 July, the Nutella Storm is a swirl of vanilla soft serve, layered with Nutella ribbons and topped with a crunchy wafer crumb.
The combination promises nostalgia, indulgence, and a little hint of lunchbox memories.
Despite the wintry weather in parts of New South Wales, it seems the chilly conditions have not stopped fans from giving this new dessert a try.
Early reviews from food lovers
Food reviewers and content creators have been quick to share their thoughts.
One reviewer, Russ Eats, described the dessert as a ‘winner’ in the long-running battle between Hungry Jack’s Storms and McDonald’s McFlurries.
‘I reckon this is the final dagger in the Storm versus McFlurry battle. I reckon Storms are officially the winner,’ he said, giving it a full 10/10 rating.
Russ compared the flavour to Dunkaroos and those familiar single-serve Nutella packs that many Australians remember from school lunchboxes.
Another content creator, Nectro (also known as NectoriousPapi), called the Nutella Storm ‘beautiful’ and said, ‘You cannot go wrong’.
Feedback on flavour and value
Not all feedback has been glowing, however. Some customers have taken to social media to comment on the quantity of Nutella in their serve.
One social media user, Wife of Lucifer, praised the soft serve but felt let down by what she called a ‘pitiful’ amount of Nutella.
‘That crunch is amazing. You know what it’s giving, guys? Ferrero Rocher. It’s undoubtedly Nutella, because hazelnut, but that crunchy wafer is giving Ferrero Rocher,’ she said.
Her verdict? Tasty, but she would have liked a more generous swirl.
Popular content creator Ange Eats also raised concerns over the portion size, particularly in relation to the $6 price tag.
‘What is going on? $6 for this,’ he asked, later saying the dessert was ‘nice’ but that he was ultimately ‘disappointed’ by the limited Nutella content.
Hungry Jack’s responds
In response to the buzz, Hungry Jack’s marketing director Luke Pavan defended the dessert.
‘Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love Nutella?’ he said. ‘We’ve gone all out to create something truly special, and we’re confident it’ll have everyone going hazel-nuts for it.’
He added: ‘We’ve taken that classic Nutella taste and swirled it into our smooth soft serve, combining that unmistakeable chocolate hazelnut goodness and a satisfying crunch.’
Mr Pavan also said the company values customer feedback and is excited to see two well-loved brands come together.

Nutella has long been a staple in Australian homes—from toast to crepes to the occasional cheeky spoon straight from the jar.
The Nutella Storm joins the ranks of other Nutella-inspired treats like doughnuts, milkshakes, and even pizza.
But how does this new dessert stack up? Some say it’s a dreamy combination of creamy, crunchy, and chocolatey.
Others believe it could do with a little more of that famous hazelnut spread.
Either way, it’s clear the battle between Storm and McFlurry has entered a new phase.
Have your say
Whether the Nutella Storm becomes your new favourite or leaves you wanting more, it is certainly stirring up discussion across Australia.
